Beginning Knitter

Help, so it seems that getting the last square to work means nothing.... The purl stitch is killing me so my question is this....what happens if my needle is behind the one holding my stitches when I do the purl stitch? I put it in from the right but it goes behind the needle instead of in front I just can't seem to make the stitch any other way and I have no reference point to know if it looks right...thanks much

Tried it and a couple others, they show how to do the stitch but not how it looks with the drop knit, and when I do it the way they show me I'm picking up stitches or just not getting the yarn through. This may be my last try for knittng.

Alright I'm crying uncle, the knitting is just killing me, maybe I should just start out with something where I put less pressure on myself.... So two CALs it is and maybe a scarf with my limited knitting skills and build from there. Thanks for the help and I will be back for the next KAL.
