Seaming

What is recommended light or dark yarn when seaming a light color pattern square to a dark pattern square?

I don't know if they are crocheted or knitted pieces, or if that even matters, but here is a link with all kinds of suggestions you might find helpful.

I seamed together some crocheted pieces using the mattress technique and except for maybe the ends, you could not see the yarn I used to seam them with.

Great advice, dogfoster. Thanks for passing along the info. I also seamed knitted pieces using mattress stitch and had very good results, as you did.

Opinion On Seaming Method

Postby dsegel » Wed Apr 04, 2012 1:18 pm

Hello everyone,

I have never put an afghan like this together so I'm new at this. I kind of like the idea of having the border and seaming the same color. I'd like your opinion on whether you think this looks good or not.

My MC is the Birch White. I am showing the seaming with 3 of my other contrasting colors. How do you like it? Is there too much contrast, do you think?

All opinions, suggestions or recommendations are greatly appreciated from this first time seamer!

I love contrasting seams when the motifs are simple and the piece is all about colour. In a case like this where the motifs are a little more delicate, I think it may detract from the design.

But ultimately, it's for you...go with what you like!

Thanks! I was kind of thinking that, too. I appreciate your feedback.

I love the mattress stitch and use it whenever I am able sewing up garments/projects.
