The Official Feedback Thread!

Postby Kaleigh » Tue May 01, 2012 2:34 pm

Hi everybody,

First, I would just like to say that you are an amazing bunch of knitters and crocheters (and I swear I'm not just saying that because I'm about to ask for opinions :helpme: )!

We're hoping to get some feedback on the Waverly for Bernat Mystery Afghan Knit- and Crochet-Along 2012 (the WFBMAKALCAL2012... what an acronym.) We would like to know what you thought about it - about how it was run and the support we provided.

Please reply to this thread and let us know what you enjoyed most and least, if you have any suggestions or requests for future KALs and CALs, and anything you would like us to know about your experience in this event!

We're going to use this information to make the next KAL/CAL bigger and better. Thanks a bunch for all of your input, and for participating this year!

Personally, I had a lot of fun, and I'm very happy with the outcome, even if I didn't stick to the official layout.
I liked being able to see what other people had done and discuss other possibilities in the forums. My only complaint is that sometimes things were hard to find. Who knew there were suggested colours for both KAL & CAL in EVERY colour palette! I only found that out at the very end, and I know I'm not alone.
That's it! Looking forward to the next one. ;)

I loved having the form to turn to when I had questions, was frustrated, or just wanted to share. Overall, I've enjoyed this experience. I loved that there was both a knit and a crochet option. This made it possible for me to make one for myself or one of my daughters or my husband's grandma (can't decide where the CAL is going yet), and one for my son (the KAL is for him without a doubt).

I wish the CAL had been a little more gender neutral. Also, I was really disappointed that after making such a lacy afghan, the CAL border was just a single row of single crochet that would hardly be seen because it was in the color that made up most of the afghan and was nearly the entire outside edge already. It sort of felt like the designers just got bored and slapped on the quickest thing they could come up with.

Love the outcome or not, I enjoy the mystery. This is the one time each year that I make something that I haven't completely planned ahead of time. I am really looking forward to doing this again next year. Who knows what the next one will bring, but I will definitely be jumping in with both feet.

This was my first but certainly not my last CAL!!! I really enjoyed it, even though I didn't stick to the official layout. The only thing I would change is that sometimes I would read something and want to go back to it a day or two later, and there was no easy way to search for it. Maybe a bookmark option would be good. That way if someone wanted to mark a post they can easily find it again!
I'm looking forward to the next one!!!! :hellogoodbye:

I'm in the mystery KAL - still working on my afghan. I knew I would not be able to finish in time because of other commitments but I will finish. I love the feel of the Waverly yarn but wished they had purples and more greens. Looking forward to the next mystery :knit: :inlove:

This is my first CAL and I loved it. Every Wednesday I looked forward to the next clue. Even though I wound up changing up some of the clues and did my own layout, I learned so much in this experience. I look forward to doing the next CAL. I found everyone helpful and so creative.

:bravo:

I really enjoyed doing the CAL. It was my first one but I hope it is not my last. I didn't really love the official layout but I liked that it was ok for other people to post their designs because I am not so creative myself. And I really enjoyed the week where we guessed what we thought the official layout would be. I agree that the border was a bit of a disappointment especially after all the gorgeous squares and octagons but again I did get some good ideas from the other members. The only thing I would change would be to explain the 15 weeks. Not say what we are doing what week or if it's a break but I was really worried when I saw there was only 8 clues but 15 weeks. I did not want 7 break weeks! Overall I think everybody did an amazing job and I cannot wait for the next one! (although I'm still not finished this one).

I have enjoyed my first CAL afghan (including doing two during the time frame) and getting to know so many great crocheter/knitters who not only helped others along but encouraged those of us who were going through difficult times. I agree with ambivalent, that being able to find the color suggestions easily would be nice. I found them by accident and then had to figure out how I found them when I went back to reference them.
Thank you again for a great CAL. I will be back for another one!!! :bravo:

Now to go start on my third afghan.....with my leftover yarn from the first two. :cooldude:
