There is maybe a glimmer of hope out there, except for the completely ridiculous use of the word "myself" that is so pervasive, it's maddening. There is a commercial poster in the school where I am taking a class on which the students have used magic marker to correct the incorrect use of our language! Challenging to be tolerant with the misuse of the language when we worked so hard to learn and use it correctly!

I used to give my students extra credit for bringing in printed grammar errors or those from tv--my favorites were always misplaced modifiers--what fun they were!!!! We live in the mountains of Georgia and it took me forever to convince our son that there was no such word as "hisself" when his babysitter used it on a regular basis. She would also make words like head, bed, milk, etc. into multi-syllable words. Interesting place to live!!

Even the voting topics used US words - Favorite = favourite. ugh, no wonder Canadian kids won't respect our spelling if big companies won't.

I loved my Wednesdays for 8 weeks. So much fun looking forward to the clues. I loved reading how others were doing [/color]

Being an American, I'm kind of glad they don't use the Canadian spellings. I'm a Typist by trade, so when I come across an alternate spelling, my brain automatically calls it a mistake, and I'm one of those anal types who wants to correct things. :)

I loved my Wednesdays for 8 weeks too. I want to do it again! It was so much fun coming to the site to see what was new and all the pictures and ideas.

This was my first time participating in a CAL; and I truly enjoyed the experience. As someone who stuck to basic crocheting for afghans and scarves, the CAL allowed me to learn new techniques and try new patterns that I would normally have shied away from.

I agree with others who have commented about having a separate "best" category for the knitted and crocheted projects, especially since they were totally different design patterns. It's really too bad that none of the knitted blankets won; because there were some really good ones that were nominated, and even more that didn't make it into the voting.

I also found the nomination process to be difficult since we needed to alternate from the knitting forum and/or crochet forum to review submissions and then choose a blanket for nomination. I spent alot of time trying to figure out whose blanket was being nominated by someone, as pictures were not readily available for quick reference. A suggestion would be to have a separate section of the forum in which each participant can post a photo of his/her finished project. No comments would be allowed to be posted within this section; this would be similar to the one that Shandeh created listing all photos alphabetically. Having this one central location would make it so much easier for the nominating process to take place.

Thanks to Bernat and everyone who made this CAL an enjoyable experience.

Thank you Bernat, this was my first CAL & enjoyed every minute of it. My mother & daughter love their Afghans! My confidence has increased in trying other projects and I look forward to the 2013 CAL! I just started back with crocheting last fall after a 40 year hiatus (my grandmother taught me when I was 10) and really was comforted by reading the forum or asking questions with quick responses...learned the definition of frogging! LOL It was amazing to see seasoned CALers change the patterns without blinking an eye...look forward to the day when I can do the same.

I loved being part of this. The planning and anticipation was really fun - and at the perfect time of year! I loved seeing all the final products and getting inspiration to get to the next clue (I was always a little behind). And I surprised myself that I never peeked a the finished clues until I was finished it myself!)
Choosing my colours without knowing what the finished product was going to look like was really hard - it was a real exercise in relinquishing control... Seriously!
I was a little disappointed that so many of the KAL squares were the same and weren't overly challenging stitch patterns - I was expecting a lot more variation and texture. The KAL really paled in comparison to the CAL in that respect. (Last year's KAL was nicer too. I think I'll add it to my project list.)
But all in all it was really fun! I'm looking forward to next time!
