As a brand new crocheter I am having trouble wrapping my brain around the ball/skein as it pertains to the amount of yarn needed for a project? Is the way the yarn sold in the stores a ball or a skein? With all the yarns sold in different lengts how do you know how much one ball is? I am hoping I purchased enough yarn for the CAL

If you're using the Bernat Waverly and bought the number of skeins the pattern called for, worry no more. If you're substituting a different brand or line of yarn, you need to compare the yardage of your skein to the yardage of a skein of Waverly. It helps to use a calculator - not that I'd know that first hand or anything... LOL

Every ball of yarn has information on the label, showing the yarn details.
The Craft Yarn Council has a webpage about it here: http://www.craftyarncouncil.com/label.html

The label will show (among other things) how many yards of yarn there are in each skein.

Bernat Waverly yarn has 197 yards per skein.

If you substitute a different yarn, you need to make sure you have enough YARDS of the yarn to do the project.

If you are doing our CAL, you will need:

5 balls of the main color (985 yards)
2 balls color A (394 yards)
2 balls color B (394 yards)
2 balls color C (394 yards)
2 balls color D (394 yards)

Click on the User Control Panel.
Then click the "Profile" tab, then scroll down on the left side to click "Edit Avatar".

Then, upload a small image from your computer.
Be sure it fits within the maximum dimensions listed on the Edit Avatar page.

Thanks.... I use the calculator on my phone everyday! I am using the waverly yarn (and i really like the softness of it) the yardage to yardage idea should be very helpful for other projects.

I will look up the web link, thanks for the help, I am using the waverly yarn and really like it. I purchased the yarn thru the bernat web page but was worried I was off. I probable just need to learn to speak "crochet" a little better. I know this CAL is like a crash course in just that, I am really learning a ton

Re: Printout - Hard to read

Postby MartyB » Mon Mar 05, 2012 7:40 pm

Thanks for adjusting the files. The funny thing is, when I printed the new files, they were still pale. I thought that was strange so I fiddled with some of my printer settings and the printouts are now darker. Maybe that would have fixed the pale print in the beginning. But the font is bigger now too and I don't think anything I changed with my printer settings affected that, so I'm lost to explain the whole thing. But it doesn't really matter because the files are much easier to read now. So thanks again!
