Blocking is a way to ensure all of your squares are the same size. Waverly is an acrylic yarn, so steam blocking will probably work best. Pinning the squares to correct size on a heat proof material and then using a steamer or steam iron to heat the fiber. Once it cools/dries, it will not lose its shape.

Time per week

Postby toniaallen » Wed Jan 18, 2012 12:53 am

I am interested in participating in one or both projects; however, I would like to know approximately how much time per week should be dedicated to the project to complete with the group?

I've never blocked any of my afghan squares, because they pull each other into shape when I seam them together. But, that's just me.

Of course, every yarn worker has a different speed, so it is impossible to predict exactly how long it will take to complete each clue. But, Bernat has planned the clues, so they can be completed in a week's time by the average person.

Long needles? Circulars?

Postby Trilabby » Wed Jan 18, 2012 11:15 am

I see that the size needles would be size 8 but how long should the needle be? Should they be straight needles or worked on Circular needles? Thanks.

I have made a couple blankets with granny squares, but didn't block them. Thanks for the advice.

You can start off with straights, but will eventually need a 29 inch circular.

On the average, about how many hours? Thanks.

I will have to leave that for the Bernat experts to answer more definitely.

In my opinion, I imagine that an experienced, quick crafter will be able to whip out the clues in a few hours each week. A beginning or slower-moving crafter would need more time.

Some weeks, the clues will be simple, and other weeks, the clues will involve more thinking. But there will be drawings and videos to help with the process.
