Mystery Afghan

Postby turner » Wed Feb 15, 2012 10:09 am

Can't wait! At least 3 of us in our knitting and crocheting group are doing this afghan. Two will be knitting and one is crocheting. Our colors are very different, it will be exciting to see how different they each look.

My mom has been sick so i talked my sister into doing this with me. Between the two of us we should have some fun inbetween the hospital visits. We have never been involved in a mystery knit along so this should be fun for us.
Be thankful for the talent you haved been given and use it to help better this world.

I'm really sorry that your mom is sick!! I hope she gets well quickly! :) Neither of my sisters will knit or crochet. I have a daughter that knits but she's too busy now to do the KAL. I've never done a mystery KALl either. I'm really excited about it! I've never talked on a forum before, so I'm enjoying that too. Well, have fun knitting! :knit:

Hi, It's a long journey from learning crochet at age 8, and now doing my first CAL. The stitches are so fast and easy! Aesthetics question: Since the finished product is a "mystery," how do we decide which 3 out of 4 contrast colors to select for colors A, B, and C, to use for Clue 1?

You can trust the advice from the Waverly Fabrics interior designers:

Crochet Afghan
Main Color (MC) - Background color
Contrast A – Main color story. A, B, and C should work well together.
Contrast D – Accent shade. Should contrast A/B/C and not be too close in value and shade to them.

Knit Afghan
Contrast A – Highlight shade. It is possibly one of the most prominent shades in the afghan, and will also be used as the border to frame the afghan.
Contrast B, C, D, and E are intended to be “mellow blends.” They should go well with each other and contrast nicely with A. The effect of all these shades together is the look of a time-worn quilt.

I feel so horrible - I'm just starting this now - am I far behind or what, lol. Oh well, I will git-r-done, lmbo. I didn't purchase the waverly as I have a bunch of wool here. For the KAL I'm going to be using a variegated wool and for the CAL I'll be using Bernat Super Value. I can't really afford to go out and buy this even though I want to sooooo badly. But, I've had my son and 2 grandsons living with me for 2 mths along with my 2 younger sons. So 6 of us in total living off my salary - well I'm so far behind in bills that I'm getting threatened to have many things cut off. YIKES!!! Please excuse the scream. Oh well, things will all work out in the end. My son finally found a job and has moved out, woo hoo. He gave me a grand total of 100 - yeah ok.
Alright, enough complaining - off to try and catch up with this knit and crochet. I'll have no problem with the crochet but the knit will take some time.
Catch ya all later.

Not a problem at all! There are several of us who are taking our time making our blanket. You won't be alone. :D

And you'll find others who are using different yarn here: viewtopic.php?f=191&t=1297

Well, I only started on Friday with my CAL. I have already finished my first 2 clues, got to study clue three and then it is full steam ahead. I hope I will be catching up with you girls. If not, I will defnitely post my finished article as a late "complete". As I live in South Africa it will be very interesting to see what I come up with, as we do not have Bernat yarn available here and I had to make do with the next best. Looking forward to see all participants finished "bedspreads".
