I just finished my first pair of socks! :D I got a little second sock syndrome in between the two, but overall it only took me about 1.5 months. After the first sock I got a lot more comfortable with the dpns... I can tell because my second sock is fairly bigger than the first!

Thanks so much to Shandeh for your super helpful videos! I couldn't have done them without your help! :D

They're in the camouflage colourway, which is all I could find, but I've warmed up to the colours.

Well done Ninjette. I love knitting with dp needles. No seaming or very little when the project is finished.

Have you ever used Paton Kroy sock yarn? Can you tell me how the two compare? Is the Bernat Sox thinner than Kroy's sock?
Michael's has 3 different Paton's yarns now in bags for $20 and one of them is Kroy Socks for 6 balls. I figure I have more than enough now to make the Beekeeper's Quilt so I need other projects to work on with the yarn, so I started thinking about socks. I am losing my fears of knitting with dpn's and am even sort of getting better at it! (still have a ways to go, which is why I am making the BKQ. I can see my work improving as I make each Hexi but the overall finished design will not matter if some are not the same as others! I digress. So, any thoughts on how the two yarns compare? I am getting faster at my knitting, only takes me 50 minutes to make a hexi, I shaved about 10 minutes off my start time 16 hexi's ago.

I also have a tiny problem that maybe an experienced knitter can help me with. How do you get a nice clean corner when binding off with 3 needles? I always end up with a couple large loops at the end which I end up tying in to make them tighter, but there has got to be an easier way!

Hi Karen! Patons Kroy and Bernat Sox are the same weight, and will knit or crochet to the same gauge.

Patons Kroy yarn is 75% wool, and 25% nylon.
Bernat Sox is 60% acrylic, and 40% nylon.

Hi there!
I would recommend checking with Bernat Customer Support.
inquire@bernat.com

The Bernat Design Team should be able to tell you which pattern will work for your size. In the meantime, you could make an average sized pair, and save it for a houseguest, or use it as a gift.

The larger size measures 10 1/2 inches long that would be from the back of your heel to the end of your toes. Measure your foot. If it is longer than 10 1/2 inches add the difference of the number of inches to the length that the pattern says before you do the toe decrease. The 10 1/2 inch measurement is from the back of the heel to the end of the sock. The toe decrease is about 2 inches long. Example: if your foot measures 11 inches you would have to knit an extra 1/2 inch before starting the toe decrease.
Also hand knit sox do have some stretch to them. You may also need more yarn than the pattern calls for if you have to adjust the size.
Hope this helps. Sox knitting is a lot of fun and they last a lot longer that commercially made ones, also warmer.

I don't believe in making New Year's Resolutions, but this year I decided that I was going to learn to knit with dpns. Having only ever knitted flat pieces, I figured this would be a sufficient challenge. So, I went to Michael's in search of sock yarn and dpns. I argued with myself for a while over which dpns I would use, so I took a break from Michael's and went next door to the coffee shop where they offer free wi-fi and did some reading on the Forum, decided to follow the advice of some veteran knitters and go with bamboo. Went back to Michael's picked up some bamboo dpns (needless to say I think I've become a bamboo convert and may never knit with aluminum or acrylic ever again) and bought some Paton's sock yarn. Didn't realise that I had picked up the Paton's Stretch sock yarn until I got home. I thought about returning the yarn, but decided that I'd try it and see how things progressed. So, with needles and yarn in hand I printed out the pattern and logged into youtube to watch Shandeh's video about casting and joining. Then, off I went. Managed to make it through the ribbing and a few rounds of stockinette and was logging in to watch video 3 of the series and realized I was knitting inside out!!!! Well, how to fix this I wondered...... :hrmm: ......finally figured out that if I turned the work right side out and slightly rearranged the way I was working I would be okay (again all thanks go to Shandeh, since I figured out the way she was holding her needles would work for me). So, I'm proud to say that with a few minor adjustments and very minor laddering (due in part to holding the needles incorrectly) I am well on my way to learning how to knit socks!!!! :bravo:
