Are you talking about the knitted "Scalloped Shell", or the crocheted "Solid Scallop"?

Helllooooooo ladies! Long Time no knit for me! :knit: But here I am with loads more yarn and despite the 40 degree Celsius weather and an air conditioner that is going kaputz, I have begun more squares for another afghan. A friend of mine in Dublin who I went to visit in May is doing the first Knit Along from 2009 with me. We started this week. :cloud9:

However, I went a bit crazy with the yarn and have enough for 3 afghans! I have a lilac and White combination going on for the 2009 pattern. But then Bernat Satin was half price in July here locally and I got the banana, camel and White colours I like so much on the original pattern. I think I'm going to do a squares theme but with different patterns because I don't want to do the same ones twice! Nicky Epstein has a pattern book out called block by block or something like that, and then there is the 1970's Barbara Walker book on learn to knit an afghan, which also has loads of squares in it. And I also have the Great American Aran afghan knitting pattern book....so choosing Will be the hard part.

Lastly, I have some really cool variegated Bernat Satin with the same lilac shades as the solids, and have enough to do an afghan of just that, with maybe an edging in a solid contrast shade. I've not done any variegated knitting though, so wondering if anyone knows of some Nice uncomplicated stitch patterns that look good in variegated. Want to see the varions colours well and not have complicated stitches whose effect gets lost amidst the colour variation.

Hi guys!

I think I'll join in too. I have my eye on the African flower motif. I want to make a throw for my bed which is mostly blues. So not as colorful as many of the motifs are, but now that the 2012mystery afghan Cal (MACAL) is under my belt, I know a little more about motifs and sewing them together.

I actually thought I'd never touch another motif after finishing up the Cal. All those tails and then all that seaming...........Yikes!!! But I guess I'm hooked. :-)

So what do we do? Do we post pics of our progress? Is there a time frame you'd like us to finish in?

Nice design name! I can't wait to see your work.

Funny, isn't it? I think we are so pleased with the final result, so all the seaming and weaving is worth it. :)

I think we should try to finish our blankets by the Fall, so we can enjoy them when the weather cools. But, some of us (cough) ME (cough) will probably take longer than that. ;)

It is really nice to be posting again and nice to have Laina join the gang again also. Like Laina, I had multiple thoughts about seaming pieces together which is just what I will be doing starting later today--42 octogons, 30 popcorn squares, and 22 triangles--must be out of my mind!!!!!

I did finish painting my kitchen and am including a pic of my new oven door. Thanks for asking Shendah, I did not get hurt but the glass cleanup was a horrible job. Since the stove is about 25 years old, we decided to not replace the glass. I think what I did to the door really brightens up my kitchen.

Hi Shandeh,

Good to see you all again and thanks for the warm welcome!

I think what I like about motifs is that you get a feeling of accomplishment along the way which encourages you to finish the project. At least it does for me. :D When I do a regular afghan, I sometimes get caught up in the drugery of doing the same stitch over and over again and it can become monotnous.

OK, I will try to finish this fall. With you saying that, it holds me accountable. :-) I will try to post a picture soon. I decided to do two at one time. Crazy me!! Why do I do that! One throw for my bed and a throw for a friend. Mine will be cotton, hers will be acrylic.
