Introduce Yourself!

During our current KAL/CAL, you'll be working on a scarf a little bit every day for the whole year. At the end, look back and see how the weather has changed!

Hello. I am Teresa from Kansas. 2013 is my year to declutter and this includes my stash. This project will be perfect and there are even a few skeins of Bernat yarn included. This morning I went through all my yarn and am gifting a trash bag of yarn I am no longer in love with to a friend. I pulled a variety of other yarns for this project.
In Kansas we have subzero to over 100 degree temperatures. I plan to use the high temp. each day starting today but I am going to do a provisional cast on so I can work backward to Jan 1 as I have time. I am starting at Below 0 and changing colors for every 10 degrees up to Over 100. I need to break the 80's and 90's down into 5 degree increments or it will get very boring. I will probably have to pick up a couple more colors for that but that is all the yarn I plan to buy. I have three lace weight yarns I am going to carry for weather. White for snow/ice, blue for rain and black for severe weather which we have a fair amount of. The border and a stripe between months will be black. Since I am trying to use up as much yarn as possible I am going to make an afghan rather than a scarf.

Thanks for this fun project and I can't wait to see everyone's progress.

Hi everyone, I tried posting this earlier today but my computer flipped out on me, so I am going to try posting it again. :smashy: Definitely would love to smash my computer, but that's a different story. LOL

I am signing on to do this CAL and I am super excited about it. I love to crochet, have been crocheting since I was an itty bitty. (My wonderful aunts discovered that it was one way of keeping me quiet!) I have actually crocheted the Dr. Who (aka the Tom Baker) scarf. Did that last year. I have pictures of the scarf on my blog. (http://dreamweaverartsncrafts.wordpress ... -projects/) It's not finished, I discovered that I made an error on it so I am working on fixing it and then getting it finished. I hope to have it completed by the end of Feb. I have a couple of other projects that I am working on also. Keeps me busy and quiet, which my roommates love. (Yea you can tell, I'm the jokester of the bunch.)

Anyways, getting back to the Weather Scarf CAL, I am actually going to make four afghans, based on the seasons. This is going to be a Christmas present for my son and daughter-in-law, my son has been asking for a new afghan for several years now. I will base on the temps where they live which is Council Bluffs, IA. I had seen a blog for the 'sky scarf' and put it on my to do list on Pinterest. I was mulling it over, trying to decide exactly how I wanted to do it, since I have already made a long scarf...by the way that Dr. Who scarf currently measures 11.5 feet. Then when I saw the Weather scarf info in an email from Bernat I thought hmmmm....how can I meld the two? So here's what I am planning on doing.

I will actually start with Dec. 2012 weather info from accuweather.com and incorporate the temperature, the sky conditions and if it snowed, rained or whatever. When I am done the end of Nov 2013 they will have four large colorful afghans that will chronicle the weather their first year of marriage. (They got married Oct. 2012.) I think they will like that. And I hope the afghans don't get too humongous. :idonno:

I still need to pick my colors out but that won't be too hard. I know I'm going to use some of the colors and yarns that others have mentioned. I think using different yarns will also make the pattern interesting and varied. Like the denimstyle that was mentioned is slightly thicker than some of the other yarns so that will be for storms and such. Then just 4 ply yarn for the temps, keep them consistent. I think I will experiment with stitches too. This should be fun! I can't wait to get started!

Hi, I'm Susan from Minnesota. I have been knitting since I was 8 years old. Taught myself to crochet when I was in High School. Then I picked up quilting when my kids were small.

My DH helped me setup the temperature scale for the scarf based on last year's ranges. I am using the ROYGBIV color scheme. Red, Orange, Yellow, Light Green, Dark Green, Light Blue, Dark Blue and Purple. I am all caught up for the month of January. So far lots of light blue and dark green. Today is below zero, so I will get to use my purple. Terrible that I am excited for a cold spell so I can use a new color in the scarf. :D

I look forward to seeing all the beautiful scarves at the end of the year.

I know! I love the weather each and every day because it will add something special to my scarf. Today it's in the negative teens, which will be bright purple for me. Can't wait!

Hello. My middle name is actually Noelle. I normally answer to Chrissy, but so do alot of other people do too. I live in the central Valley of California, where currently we are having an freezing snap that is bothering citrus. I love this project idea because it wil give me a chance to get through my yarn stash so I can get more yarn. Because it is usually temperate where i live I have decided to change colors for major winter events such as storms, fog, tornatoes, yes we even have them in California, and so on. Cannot wait to se other projects.

hi! I'm Christine and I live in the western part of NY state. We do get temperatures in every range, although the extremes are infrequent. I am going to knit my scarf with a fingering weight yarn and I have planned a 13 color spread with black for my borders (basically 10 degree ranges). I will go back and start at the beginning of January and will knit for the entire year. Knowing me, I probably won't knit a day at a time, but I will knit each month at the beginning of the next month. I was amazed to find out that already in January, I will need 5 different colors - we have had average temperatures in the teens, 20's, 30;s, 40;s and 50's although the 30's are the most common.
I have mapped out my scarf in Photoshop Elements and will add stripes for each day as they are determined.

Hi!
My name is Nicole & I am one of the designers on the Bernat team!
I'm really excited about starting this project & having something new to work on during my lunch hour.
I'm also excited to be a part of these forums & to use these adorable little emoticons!
:cooldude: :knit:   :hellogoodbye:

I'm going to be knitting a 'temperature blanket' rather than a scarf, which I see some other people are doing as well. Looking forward to being part of this awesome K/CAL!

Hi all! :hellogoodbye:
I am Danielle, and currently reside in San Jose CA by way of NY! I am going to be making this scarf reflecting the temperatures in San Jose for my best friend (the sister I never got) who still lives in NY (ironically, she was born in San Jose). My goal is work on this scarf once per week instead of every day, because I don't think my newborn will allow for that!
In between working on this scarf and practicing being a new mommy, my goal for this year is to finish al my UFO's before starting on ANY OTHER PROJECT!! (yea - we will see how that goes!! ) Anyone else here have project ADHD? Anywho...my other projects including both knitting and crochet, and are socks, scarfs, hats, blankets, stuffed animals/toys etc....
I look forward to getting to know all of you here over the course of the year!
Cheers!
Danielle

Hi, I'm Cori! I :hellogoodbye:
I work with Jen and Amanda on the Web Content team here at Bernat! I'm a new knitter (the ladies here at the Design Studio taught me to knit when I joined the team last summer), so I'm SUPER excited to work on this project all year! I'll be making a cowl out of Sheep(ish) by Vickie Howell.

I started working on it this weekend and had all of the rows for January 1st to January 19th done, and then my kitten got into my knitting and pulled all of my stitches out with her claws while I was asleep! :tears:

So, looks like I'll be starting over tonight (AND finding a new hiding place for my in-progress projects!)
