Yarn and Colors for Your Temperature Scarf!

During our current KAL/CAL, you'll be working on a scarf a little bit every day for the whole year. At the end, look back and see how the weather has changed!

I live in Sacramento and we usually have a 30 degree temp. variation between night time lows and daytime highs, so will do one or the other or both. It will be interesting to see if I can stay in the blue and green range for the entire year. Our summer night time lows are in the mid to high 60's so I may be able to do it.

What fun this will be!

i'm using the blog color too but the temp range will be as follows:
crimson 88>
golden rod 76 - 87
foliage 64 - 75
soft fern 52 - 63
lagoon 40 - 51
aqua 28 - 39
teal 16 - 27
sultana <15
border snow

I was going to do average temps but i think I will use actual high temps.

I'll be using Satin in a different way.

As I've mentioned in my other posts, I'll be making a cowl out of corrugated ribbing (the link goes to a Google image results page). Here are my shades!

Here are my colour choices. They look a bit weird, but I think they’ll do the trick. :D

What could possibly be a good border color? Using the Satin colors listed--what would go with that? Ivory? Hmmmm.

I have been wondering about the border colors myself. The pattern calls for doing 4 rows of the border color to start and end the scarf and then I think it's 4 rows to separate the months. Since I am doing 4 'seasonal' afghans I want each one of my afghans to have a different border, something that goes along with the season and possibly of a 'heather' hue. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

gsusan11 - :hrmm: are you thinking of doing different colors for the temps for each season or will you be keeping the same colors for the temps throughout the project?
I like the idea of a heathered color for the border! What colors have you selected? That may help us answer your question more thoroughly and give more ideas!

I can't wait to start seeing everyone's scarves!! This is so very exciting!! I have also decided to make a second one for myself representing my daughters first year of life! Since we were team purple (instead of pink), I have decided to use a variety of purples into the purple/pinks. I will also be using the same bead concept for mine as my friends scarf. However, I am thinking of eliminating the border color entirely as there is a lot going on with the beading.....

I also LOVE the idea of joining the ends together to make an infinity scarf....sorry I don't remember who said that, but it's a FAB idea!!

Well, I posted my colors on the introduction board without realizing there was a special board for it! ;) Opps! But it changed anyway, so I will post again. I had planned to use the sheep(ish) yarn, and actually thought I had placed an order, but never got a confirmation email. I then realized the policy that if something you ordered isn't available, then you are shipped what remains in your order-which worries me when you spend so much time coordinating your palette and then can't get it all but only some? How do you plan for that, this is a new venture for me! So I went with another online store that shows you what is in stock so you know if it is available or not. Unfortunately they didn't carry the sheep(ish) so I went with another brand. Anyway, here is my palette.
25-32 purple
33-40 olympic blue
41-48 parakeet
49-56 emerald
57-64 yellow
65-72 orange
73-80 tangerine
81-89 cherry red
I think it has been a weird January for a lot of folks-my colors will range (so far) from the olympic blue to the orange. One more degree and I would have hit the tangerine!!
Haven't finalized my pattern, if I am going to follow the directions or mix it up-and this will be a knit project. I have been looking at the photos to see the different options others have tried.

My colour range only went to -10 & below but given that it has been -24 with the windchill for the last couple of days, I think I need to add another colour to represent these mega cold days! :hrmm:

.

I will be using the birthstone colors for my temperature prayer shawl. Plus a popcorn stitch pattern

I changed my mind. Still sticking to the birthstone colors and using the temp example. Making an afghan because I'm using garnet birthstone for the border than starting the temperatures. I'm also adding grey for when it rains and sparkly ivory for snow.

well, i am "scrapping " so the colors will not be the same beginning to end but I think that will only add to the "wondrous variety" :cooldude:

I have added a level of cold latitude and altitude provide us with some wondeful weather extremes
so:
dark purple 12 and lower
purple 13-22
Blue 23-32
blue/green 33-43
pale green 44-53
dark green 54-66
bright/dark yellow 67-77
Orange 78-88
red 89 +
I may add a flame red if we get a weeks worth of 100

I have put all my skeins in zip bags with the degree range written on - I will refill as I use the yarn, hopefully this will keep me organized. I plan on working up a week at a time.

I am also considering making one with an inch of the weekly average temp . It will be a more realistic length but I'm not sure the color variation will be as interesting
