Hi my name is Lisa and I am very excited about this project. Still trying to decide where. I currently live in upstate NY but we are trying to sell our house buy an Rv and travel for awhile maybe ending up in New Mexico so originally planned on nm but now thinking starting in Ny and than with any luck continue once we get on the road wherever we might be at the time. Now also deciding between scarf and Afghan. Was thinking of doing 12 squares with daily high low temp. for each using dk wt working on the math Any advice suggestions would be welcome. Look forward to reading about and seeing everyones progress

A "traveling" blanket with on-the-road temps would be fun, and a great decorative addition to your RV. Just doing some quick math, each square would be 60 rows long if you do two rows per day. Using dk wt I think my SC rows work out about 1/4 inch, so a 60-row square would be about 15 inches. Not sure how knitting would work out. Do a guage swatch to see how your rows measure. You would need to do a 3X4 block grid to keep the proportions correct. Someone on here had decided to do small blocks, 2-3 inches square for each day, and join them.....lots of joins, and still a pretty large blanket, but also a very good idea.

I will be joining this KAL as soon as my yarn comes in. I can 't wait to start. I was wondering if anyone would be including cloud cover, thunderstorms, snow, etc. in their scarf. I have chosen colors to include those in my scarf. I chose white for snow, dark grey for tornados, and a tweed like for thunderstorms.

I am going to do a blanket as well. I think I have it figured out, but my math skills aren't the best in the world. I decided to do strips of 3 months each because I hate sewing blocks together. I thought that if I had the same number of rows in each strip, then it should work out. I know I will need to add extra rows because the months aren't even. So, to even out the number of rows, I am going to add a color for the season between the months. Since I ordered Bernat Satin, I am waiting on my yarn. But, that is okay because it has given me time to figure all this out. If my calculations are correct, it should be about 36" by 48", which will be fine for my lap when I watch TV and knit. But, I think that if each strip is the same number of stitches and rows, it should work out. I will probably put a border around each strip before I sew them together to give it a more finished look. In my mind's eye, it looks great.

Just ordered my yarn. Really excited!!! If you are wanting to order the Bernat Satin, they are out of stock on a lot of the colors. Had to change my yarns in the middle of the order! Making one for myself and one for my daughter who lives in another state. Using the same yarns, but changing the temptatures around.

Hello again!! My name is Michelle, and I have ordered my Satin colours to make this into a kind of calendar afghan, perhaps as a gift for my brother and SIL who are expecting their first baby this year.
I live in Edmonton, AB and our temperatures vary a great deal, so I bought 11 colours (12 including border colour) and am separating them by 5 degrees Celsius. I’m excited for this project!!

I'm going to be Very Exciting and base my scarf on the weather where I live, which is Toronto. My current plan is to make a cowl using corrugated ribbing... I hope it works!

Hi everyone; I'm Paula from Chicago. This is my first CAL ever. I've been crocheting for many years, but only knew the basic stitches. Since I joined the knit/crochet group at my local library, I have learned new stitches, many types of yarns and yarn weights, the importance of matching dye lots and how to read patterns correctly.

I will be making a granny square afghan. The 1st round with the temperature color and the 2nd round in white and join the squares as I go along. I will have 20 squares per row and 20 rows. I figured 365 days, 3 white squares between the months and one white square at the beginning and end of the afghan. That will be a total of 400 squares. Depending on the left over yarn colors will determine how I'll make my border. My husband never heard of CAL/KAL's before and thought this was a great idea too. He will help me by looking up and listing the daily temperature on a spread sheet for me!

I will use the same colors and temperature scale as Bernat suggested and will use AccuWeather.com for the actual high temp reading for the day (so I will always be one day behind). I will start with January1st and continue thru December 31, 2013.

I live in Kentucky and so far in January our temperatures have been crazy. We will have 30 degrees one day and 2 days later it's 70 degrees. I'm very excited about this scarf. I have seen another varation of this idea but you go by if the day is sunny or cloudy. I think I like this idea better.
