So I imagine it's a more masculine design, I think the colours you describe would be very effective together but I feel your pain! It's so hard to choose when you don't know what the final design is.

I'm not sure where you found that, but it may have been somebody talking about a specific shade scheme. The knit afghan is neither masculine nor feminine - it will fit everywhere!

This is where I read it...you had me thinking I was going crazy!

I am wondering which one would be best design for a boy. Or will there be some squares I will have to do differently (like the last one with the flowers, I would have had to do the stripe square or something else. I just hate to start the croc one for him only to find out that the knit one would have worked better. I want to work along with the group and not wait to see what the final product is to start.

I believe the knitted blanket will work better for a boy.

So admittedly maybe I was reading more into this as I know it doesn't necessarily mean that it is masculine in design! It's just that I was thinking of making this for my 7 year old daughter and this stuck in my mind after reading, so I decided to knit for downstairs instead.

Okay, that's fair! :) Without giving too much away about the final product, here's what I can say: the CAL afghan is definitely feminine, but the KAL afgan is gender neutral. Whether your KAL afgan is masculine or feminine depends on what shades you choose to make it in, whereas the overall design of the CAL afghan is already feminine.

With that info, my cal will work well with my color picks of all the rose tones and green, and my kal will work with red blue yellow green and black. I just hope I can keep up! I usually get bored half way through a project .Excited to have a mystery to keep me going. :knit:

Hi
Though I love getting yarn and love the colors suggested, due to financial constraints and a stash that some might consider getting out of hand I am going with yarn I already have. I have picked a light sage as my Contrast A. The other colors i have picked are a rosy pink, light purple almost lilac , country blue and a dark sage. Now how do I go about deciding on what colors to make Contrast B, C D, and E. Based on the finished product do you have any suggestions as to how to use the other colors I have chosen. I am very excited about this it will be my first KAL and I love the mystery aspect. Thanks for any help

I decided to do the CAL for my 7 year old daughter too. I was trying to pick colors but kept waffling. When I asked her what she would pick--she gave me her answer almost right away. She chose Mauve glow for the mc, princess, fresh flowers, and birch white with breath of blue for contrast. So I nixed making this for the family room or living room and decided to make it for her. I will have lots of incentive to get it finished and joined!

I went to the Joann's website today found that they have all bernat yarn 30% off until tomorrow night! With a free shipping code it was less than $39 for the CAL yarn. Yeah!

Okay, I am sold. After hearing that the CAL is definitely feminine, I have been uneasy about its intended recipients. But, with Joann's great sale/free shipping, I think I will get more yarn and do both. Not sure who I will give the CAL to now, but I will choose colors I like.

I will be using the colors I had picked out previously for the KAL (stone brown, sun drift, willow, cadet, and incense). New colors for the CAL are: stone brown, colonial beige, turtle green, Irish moss, and incense.

Okay...at last I have made my decision. Just placed my order and there's no going back!
So the colours are MC Colonial Beige, contrasts B C D are Willow, Gypsy Gold and Sundrift and E will be Black.

Just excited now to get the yarn! I have pondered over this for several days now so I just hope that the colours are as expected when they arrive. Woo-hoo! First ever KAL here I come! :knit:
