Other Hobbies

If you feel like talking about something that isn't knit- or crochet-related, feel free to do so here.

Other Hobbies

If you're like me, knitting and crochet are not your only hobbies.

I'm a musician (piano, organ, voice), and piano teacher. So, that means I spend a lot of time practicing and performing music.

I also enjoy doing hand embroidery, sewing, spinning yarn, and I've been trying to learn to weave. I used to do cross-stitch and needlepoint, but can't anymore, because of my vision.

I wish I could sculpt or make pottery. I think I would enjoy working with clay - just because it would feel good on my hands. I'm not so interested in the baking part of it, though. Maybe I should investigate that more, to see what kinds of options there are for working with clay.

I'm also very interested in art. I could spend an hour looking at just one painting in a museum. So fascinating. Have any of you seen the movie "The Girl with the Pearl Earring"? That was such an artistic movie.

What kinds of hobbies have you pursued? Are you interested in learning more?

I have other hobbies beside knitting and crocheting. As a child I took piano lessons (how I envy you to be able to play) I just could not bare being seated for a long time doing only exercises. I just wanted to perform  But I have other talent :)
I love art. I did oil painting, stained glass, I am also making jewelry which I sell in a beauty salon. I love cooking .
After raising my family, I have more time to try more things, I hope for wood sculpting one day. Its funny to see what is hidden in a piece of wood.

Yeah, I understand THAT one! Some of my students feel that way. ;)

Here is a picture of one of my painting, and a picture of 3 of 4 stained glass panels. Each panel measure 2' X 4'

Oh wow, those are beautiful! Such amazing work. Did you go to school or just figure things out on your own? I find the internet to be such a great resource for those of us with diverse interests and a desire to learn.

Thank you so much,
Being self taught in oil painting, I had to take some courses because I was not too sure about mixing colours. For stained glass I did take lessons because it needed a little know how. There are many steps before achieving a piece. But it is so rewarding. When I got confident enough, I made my own desing and went for it. The result are my 3 panels which I'm very proud of!! :D And I totally agree with you: Internet is a great source of information

That's interesting! That is my next item on my want to do list - piano lessons. I took up cello for a couple of years, but once I got past the very basics, I found my lack of music theory to be a major source of frustration. My instructor kept jokingly calling me a "glutton for punishment", having chosen a cello as a first instrument with no previous knowlege of how to read music. She always suggested that piano would help to give me a good foundation. So I've decided to try it, and I can continue to take them from the same studio a short walk from my place. Plus I think my long-suffering neighbours will appreciate an instument that allows me to wear headphones! ;)

Hi, like the rest of you I have outside interests as well; my main one is polymer clay. I was introduced to the art by Donna Kato while doing a segment on Carol Duvall way back when! I am also a beadwork artist, my father is from Nigeria and I have been active with human rights issues since I was a child. I spent two years studying beadwork with the Ndebele people and their primary stitch, herringbone, is my favorite. I make beads and specialty buttons in polymer clay. I love it!
