Where do you live?

Postby flatrock9er » Thu Feb 02, 2012 12:15 pm

Hi Everyone,

I thought it would be fun to learn some geography while we crochet. Get out your atlas, or use google maps! Read this forum and learn, learn, learn!

I am from Flatrock, Newfoundland, Canada. This is a small town of about 1100 people, just outside St. John's, Newfoundland. I live on the most easterly coast of Canada... right out in the Atlantic.

Why not visit

to see my community?

In the Newfoundland dialect of English, the question "Where do you live?" is often said as "Where are you from?" So....

Where are you from?

Hello--

Wow! The website you listed has a lot of pictures and info about your town. It was nice to see. Thanks for pointing us in that direction. 8-)

I live in Northeastern Illinois near the Wisconsin border, on the outskirts of the city of McHenry. You and I live over 2500 miles from each other. Imagine this: if one of us drove to the other, it would take four full days of constant driving. That would be quite the trip, eh? Perhaps through this CAL we can get virtually closer. 8-)

What colors have you chosen for the CAL? Mine are: Sundrift, Tibetan Red, Blue Gown, Stone Brown, and Colonial Beige. I have already received them from the Waverly for Bernat site. They are GORGEOUS! I love even the FEEL of them, so I know I will enjoy crocheting with them. I can hardly wait! 8-)

Good luck with your project. I hope to hear more about it soon.

From skiing in the winter months to fish, camping and hiking on the warmer days. We also have some very nice museums here in Grand Junction. We have in main museum with all the painting and other art. Then we have our dinosaur museum that it interactive and great fun to take your family to. Then we our living history farm, and on this farm is where you well find my family and myself. My husband is the grounds supervisor for the farm and as part of the job we get to live in the old farm house that is on the property. I live in San Jose, California. Right in the heart of the Silicon Valley! There are so many things to do here! museums, parks, sports games, ect.. We are also just an hours drive from San Francisco to the north just over an hour south is Monterey. You can see some of the sights here: http://www.visitcalifornia.com
or here: http://www.sanjose.org
I am 4,663 miles from Flatrock9er, 1,003 from TrinaLrose (I have family in Cortez, CO though), and 2,264 from PatriciaJ, but would have to drive through Grand Junction to get there!

I'm from Indian Trail, North Carolina, USA. I've lived here all my life. (except for a few short moves into Charlotte for a while.)

Our town is very small, but has grown TREMENDOUSLY in the past 8 years. We were listed as one of the Top Ten Family Friendly Cities in Family Circle magazinea few years ago. And we even have a Facebook page! :)

We are located right smack in the center of the Carolinas, and are also centrally placed between the mountains and the beaches. It takes two hours to get to either....depending on traffic, of course.

When I was growing up here in the 70's and 80's, it was a very boring place. NOTHING was here except houses and one stoplight. Now, we have Starbucks, Walmart, an ice skating rink, a roller skating rink, tons of fast-food restaurants, and a few nice "sit-down" restaurants as well. And we are now building a one of a kind movie theater. (I wonder what it will be like?) Our recent population boom has brought lots of huge houses and crowded neighborhoods. It's definitely a changed city.

I am from Stoney Creek, Ontario, Canada.

I choose 2 different colourways for my CAL. Not sure if I am going to make it twice as of yet. But I bought my first set (BT) a few weeks back from Mary Maxim, we took a drive out so I could see the colours in person and ended up purchasing them they were so gorgeous! MM had all 28 colours! This has to be the softest acrylic yarn I have ever felt next to Satin! Love love love it!
Then this weekend we went to Michael's across the street from us and found Waverly on clearance (makes no sense since it is such a new yarn) so I picked up a second set in (TC). I could not resist the awesome price, almost half of what I paid at MM. I tried getting a third set at the other Michael's in Ancaster but their clearance price was not the same, though they did have more choice. Oh well, saves me money not buying more!

I made my swatch, went up a hook size, still not wide enough, but it is tall enough. I am self taught so I am thinking I don't really do it correctly. In the end I do get decent results. But never the right measurements. Therefore I have never attempted making fitted clothing. This yarn was the most fabulous yarn to make a swatch with! I cannot wait to start the CAL!!
