Joining same colour yarn, how do you do it?

I saw a post about how to hide your ends when you make rows with different colour yarns.
Now I want to make one about joining the same colour into a project.
The last few things I have made I wanted it all one colour, so I had to hunt down a way of making that dreaded join to avoid the dreaded weaving in at the end of the project and keep down the fraying.
A couple years ago I went to everyone, including Bernat themselves, trying to figure out how to do this using Bernat Satin, my favourite yarn ever (though new Waverly is a close second at this moment). No one had advice, so the afghans I made all have these tiny bits hanging out cuz I could not get them tucked in nicely.
Recently I discovered the Russian Join. This takes a few minutes to complete but the tiny fray ends are no longer a problem! and I would rather get this done as I go than to have to face the ends at the end of a project!

I sure hope this helps someone as much as it helped me.

I love using the Russian join. However, my new favorite hidden join is the braiding technique. To do it, you split one yarn end into two pieces. The other you trim to half size (like when doing a spit splice). Then you braid the ends. It makes a secure join which is not as thick as a Russian join.

I like to use Jane Richmond's magic knot for same colour joining...video on her blog.
Simple but effective!
