Introduce Yourself!

If you feel like talking about something that isn't knit- or crochet-related, feel free to do so here.

You're a smart one!

As for being "fluffy", I am too. I would like to lose about 100 pounds, and I'm trying! But, it's hard. :?

I'll have to get my dad to take a photo so I can post one. I wanted a picture of it to keep anyway.

OK, I'll just sit here and wait to see it............I'll knit while I'm waiting.

Last year I made some crocheted scarves for the Winter Special Olympics that almost looked plaid. I think the term is intarsia (sp?) (versus fair isle). It can be accomplished in crochet as well as knitting.

Hi All,

My name is Janna.

Do you knit and/or crochet? I do both.

How long have you been knitting and/or crocheting? My maternal grandmother tried to teach my older sister and brother and me to knit about 50 yrs ago. My brother and sister both picked up on it, but I wasn't ever able to. However, the same year, my paternal grandmother, who lived in the same building as my family, taught me how to crochet, which I picked up like 2nd nature. Then just 2 years ago, I decided to re-learn how to knit. So I had my friend's mother show me how to cast on and I took off from there. Within a month, I was doing cables, seed, ribs, etc. My second knit project was a KAL hooded cardigan sweater which I wear proudly.

Where are you from? I currently live in SW Arkansas; just moved here last October. I moved here from northern Iowa, but have also lived in Missouri and SE Los Angeles County in California.

What are your favorite things to make? Don't have any favorites.

What other hobbies do you have? I have so many hobbies, they are almost too numerous to mention. I also sew, embroider, needlepoint, cross-stitch, computer geekette, & digital photo restoration. I am also an ordained Christian minister and a square dancer.

Can you tell that I'm ADD and CDO? (CDO = OCD but in alphabetical order as it should be!

Hi Janna! :hellogoodbye:

Loved reading about you! We have a lot in common. I started out with crochet when I was young, then taught myself to knit when I turned 40. I think us Christians are never happy just doing one thing at a time. We have to constantly multitask!

Do you knit and/or crochet? I crochet

How long have you been knitting and/or crocheting? Worked on a few projects and collected patterns when I was a teenager. Started a blanket with a ripple stitch when I had my first baby. Never got around to finishing it. Picked it up again about 10 years ago. Really only have made afghans, scarves, hats, purses, cat toys, dishtowels, reuseable cotton balls and enough dishcloths to supply an army! Oh I did make one pair of baby booties and tried a baby sweater, with not very good results.

Where are you from? Stoney Creek, Ontaio, Canada

What are your favourite things to make? Anything my daughter requests becomes my favourite

What other hobbies do you have? Recently, I etched a set of wine glasses and beer glasses using Disney decals.
I make all my own cards.
I love blackwork.
I tried knitting, but just cannot get pass dishcloths. and even then I make too many mistakes
I have also painted ornaments (ceramic and wood)
Basically I have tried every craft at one time or another but always return to crochet the most often.

Stoney Creek! Hamilton is very dear to my heart  Because I'm not from Stoney Creek/Ancaster/Dundas I just pretend they're all part of Hamilton

How did you etch the wine glasses? Etching wine glasses/beer steins as gifts is something I'd really like to try my hand at!
Temperature Scarf KAL: Bernat Satin, corrugated ribbing.

Technically, according to our government, Stoney Creek IS part of Hamilton these days. I just don't like Hamilton!

I used Armour Etch and my Cricut and vinyl.
I cut the vinyl (using my Disney cartridge), removed the positive and trimmed the negative to fit the glass, did this all over, added waste vinyl over the open areas then used the etch cream for about 10 minutes, washed it off, removed the vinyl and voila, there was the etched glasses! I took photos but I cannot post them yet till I give the glasses as a gift. Wine for my sister-in-law and beer for my brother - both who's birthdays fall a couple weeks apart.

PS: huge huge money saving tip - find a local sign making shop - they are way more frequent than you realize - go in and ask them for their vinyl scraps. The colour selection may not be the grandest, but if you are using the vinyl as described above, just to throw away, why pay for it? So beg your sign shop for scraps. I am lucky enough to have a few shops near enough to me. I have never paid for vinyl. Though I have offered them $5 for the scraps one time and was turned down. Next time I went I brought coffee with me.

Hi everyone! I'm Kim and I am a 5th generation Texan - currently I live outside of Waco in Central Texas.
I have been crocheting since I was about 8 (about 35 years ago) from a friend's aunt, and have tried a couple of times in the past to knit but always went back to crochet as it was faster. I dusted off the knitting needles for the KAL this year, and plan on doing both the KAL and CAL. As far as projects, I have knitted a scarf and a couple of dishcloths. Crochet - well, that's another story. I've made afghans, baby blankets, toys, scarfs, sweaters, Easter baskets, hats...
I work full time with the blind and visually impaired, and am just starting my doctorate program. I love to cook, read, travel, Zumba, crochet, sew, and go anywhere off the beaten path ( there's a story there about the world's largest prarie dog and a six legged calf...). I love to crochet something mindless while I watch TV in the winter - usually Castle, Justified, Big Bang Theory, NCIS or Criminal Minds. Still can't knit mindlessly, but I can't wait to improve my skills with the KAL. I also belong to the local Lions Club.
Shandeh, I think you're right about Christians multitasking - I know I always have several balls of yarn in the air at a time  Or maybe it's just from being a woman ;)
