Charity Knitting & Crochet

Postby Shandeh » Wed Jan 04, 2012 10:57 pm

Some of you may already know that I do a lot of knitting and crochet for charity.

Are there any other charity knitters/crocheters among you?

What types of items do you make for charity?

Where do you donate them?

Which Bernat patterns do you like to use for making charity items?

What type of yarn is best for your particular charity?

I make lap robes for veterans at a local state veterans home. I am part of a group at my church for this program. Recently, the veterans home has also asked for hats and scarves, which we will also supply. The lap robes are all done in red, white, and blue. The hats and scarves will probably done in lots of different colors.

I also make preemie blankets, hats, sweaters, etc. for local hospitals with NICUs. I am part of a group for this project also.

Ask at your local yarn store about local organizations that might be organizing local knitters to knit for local charities.
Knitting for others makes the world a better place.

I would love to do charity knitting since I always have a number of things I have knit. I usually give away all my knitting projects anyway. My local yarn shop? I live in the desert in New Mexico and it is 100 miles or more to a yarn shop. I am an online shopper and I also spin a lot of my own yarn. This just starting afghan KAL is the first time I will be using a Bernat yarn; I hope I like it.

I think it's wonderful that you can spin your own yarn. I've made some good attempts at learning to spin. I even have a wheel. But, it was just too time consuming, and I was never happy with the yarn I made. So, now I just buy pretty yarn instead.

My daughter just sent me the link. Deadline to mail is feb 15 - day of the first clue. I am starting a 5 day stretch at work but hope to bind off a hat or two in the process.

I looked through all the free baby hat patterns on the Bernat website, and found two that I can knit quickly.

The first one calls for Bernat Baby Stretch yarn. I have quite a collection of that in my stash, so I'm gonna knit at least one hat with that. The pattern is called "Baby Stretch Hat". Link to pattern HERE.

I think these four colors have possibilities for that hat.

The second one is the Softee Baby Knit Hat. Pattern link HERE. I have lots of Bernat Softee Baby yarn in my stash as well. So many pretty colors, and the yarn is so soft! :inlove:

There is also a crocheted hat pattern for Softee Baby yarn. Link HERE.

A group of ladies from my church are getting together to knit hats for charity. We have some great baby hat patterns but were wondering if anyone has any knit hat patterns for chemo patients? Something simple for the newbies.

thanks
