Bernat Baby Fingering yarn was changed over a year ago, it is now 10% nylon and 90% acrylic. The yarn was getting a little thin so it was also bulked up a little. This will cause your afghan to be slightly larger.

My Dad is in assisted living facility, he has Alzheimer's. Two years ago I crocheted for him a nice wool vest with cables, pockets, buttons, the works. It just hung in his closet and got longer, and longer, and l o n g e r, he did not recognize it nor know where it came from so he would not wear it. So I gave that to charity and started on a lapghan for him, something cheerful he could put on his bed, in chair, etc., it is plenty warm in there. So while waiting for 2012 CAL I started lapghan for him using yarn I already had, using squares from 2010 CAL. Now the squares block to 7 1/2 inches, I was planning four by four. That looks sort of small. I planned the squares so that I could put an extra panel of stitching down the length of each side. For example, on two opposite sides, put v stitch square on each of lapghan so that I could continue along of the sides of the lapghan in v stitch pattern for a few inches, same thing with shell squares on two opposite sides, then border all of that. Does anyone think that a 30 square would be fine enough just as cheerful decoration without adding all of these extra panels? Also, his birthday is next week and I would like to give it to him then. Still have squares to join! Slow going with that.

Hi again,
No, it would be a total of just 16 squares, so each side is only 30 inches long. It dawned on me last night I could put a few rounds of "granny" pattern, then the edging. The "granny" pattern goes very, very quickly for me.
