I would try a size 7. It would throw your afghan off. The squares would be bigger so your afghan would be bigger; not to mention that you would have to purchase more yarn to complete it.

I did a gauge swatch tonight to see which hook i wanted to use. I almost never use the hook recommended in the instructions and the type of yarn you use can really affect the hook needed.

I started with the J hook since that is the one i'm using on a worsted weight baby afghan i'm working on and i like the looseness and flexability of the yarn and i was right on gauge with it! I just need to use my K hook for the foundation chain so it isn't quite so tight on the bottom edge.

I can't wait until the 15th!

I'll give it a shot, I guess if I get fewer stitches per inch I won't have to worry about running out of yarn. Thanks!

my swatch was one cm bigger. I just bought one ball of wool for the KAL and I have all the wool I ordered for the CAL. I'll have to see what a 4.5 swatch will measure. I guess tomorrow will be my last day to make my last swatch. :knit:

Needles for KAL

Postby shelley » Wed Feb 15, 2012 10:54 am

Hi Shandeh

I'm also waiting for the KAL/CAL first pattern with anticipation.
I just wondered about needle size.
I'm a fairly loose knitter, should I drop down a size.
