From Canada

If you feel like talking about something that isn't knit- or crochet-related, feel free to do so here.

Whoa! That would be HARD! :o
I have to use the translator when reading Poirot mysteries by Agatha Christie.
So many times, she types his thoughts and spoken responses in French, and doesn't bother translating.

Also from Canada (Hamilton, Ontario) and new to knitting and KAL's. I found my yarn at a local Zellars and have practiced enough gauge swatches to finally get the right gauge (4.5mm for me) so all set to begin. :cloud9:

Salut à toutes les tricoteuses-crocheteuses canadiennes ! Et même aux tricoteurs et crocheteurs .... Oui, il doit y en avoir ! :knit:
Crochet or knit is not necessary a feminine activity : in French, you can hear and see the difference betwen the female and male words .... and, what a pity, not in English ! :idonno:
About the "canadian french accent", I heard recently that the canadian prononciation is very near from the old norman (from Normandie) way of speaking, and some local specialists are studying your local expressions to "reconstruc" our old norman ... :reading:
I can read quite fluently classic English (from England, and a few from America) but it's sometimes difficult to understand short abbreviations, like "ktog", if they are not in a technical contest. Familiar speaking, mispellings and slang are really difficult ... :helpme: but I try to read out and hear what is the nearest possible ...
Yes, the best way is immersion ..... and these CAL and KAL are good opportunities ! (in French, I'll propose CALC : crocheter au long cours, and TALC : tricoter au long cours) :cloud9:

I expressed my love for Hamilton to a user from Stoney Creek, but she doesn't like Hamilton very much  So... Hamilton! Awesome! I love Hamilton! Welcome! Exclamation marks!
