Pattern Ideas for Bernat

Postby Shandeh » Fri Feb 10, 2012 4:59 am

Is there a pattern you would like for Bernat to design?

I would like to have a good simple pattern for a basic cardigan that buttons. Something I could grab on my way out the door, that would work well with most of my wardrobe. I want it to have the option of a lapel collar that I could wrap around my neck on chilly days....and buttons and buttonholes would need to be all the way up through the collar. I would also like for the cardigan to have comfy pockets. It would be nice to have two different versions: one in worsted weight, and one in chunky weight.

What about your pattern ideas?

And two different lengths - a regular length for warmer climes and a coat length for colder climes.

Something with various sleeve lengths.. short, 3/4 length and long. I am a plus size woman.. and like my sweaters hip length and my upper arms covered..

Shandeh, looked at some of the patterns you have on your flickr page. Where can I find some of these patterns? I am going to Maine this spring via Amtrak and would like something light but confortable to wear and am going on a cruise in late summer. Something nice, for dinner..

You'll find LOTS of great patterns here on the Bernat website. I just love that all their new patterns include sizes all the way to 5X!! :bravo:

I am a plus size person as well, so I've learned to rely on Bernat to provide patterns that will fit me well. It's the reason I fell in love with Bernat! :cloud9:

If you crochet, you might like the Flower Cardigan for your Maine trip. You could easily add more rows at the bottom of the cardigan, to make it hip length. Link HERE.

Another crochet project would be a shoulder shrug. You could use this over tank tops, to cover your arms for comfort. This would give you the option of staying cool and comfortable, without exposing your arms. ;)
Bernat Bamboo Shoulder Shrug pattern HERE.

Since Bamboo yarn would be a good choice for summer, I would recommend that you look at the pattern books you can purchase for that yarn. The Natural Selection pattern book has knit and crochet tops, pullovers, and boleros that would be perfect for your cruise!

Beautiful Bamboo is another pattern book for that yarn. It has some very nice tops and cardigans that would work very well for Spring and Summer.

Have you ever worked with crochet thread before? I am very interested in making the Openwork Tunic on the cover of the new Summer Days pattern book.

That should give you lots of options! :)

I am always looking for blanket / afghan patterns. I want my pattern to be simple. I want it to look difficult. I want to get a 'wow' from all who see it.
Kind of like the basket weave stitch. That one looks very difficult and I get a wow from anyone who sees my blanket made with it yet it had to be among the simplest I ever made (though it did suck back the yarn more than usual)

PS: Forgot to mention I crochet. So I suggest this as a crochet pattern please.

I :inlove: the flower cardigan! Found the natural selection booklet last week and like the simple two-tone cabled knit sweater in it. Didn't see the other one though. Why oh why do I need to run all over this city to find things?

I love that flower cardigan too. I want to make it one day. Right now, I'm too busy moderating this place. Ha!
