Crochet-Along Clue 1

Postby Jen » Wed Feb 15, 2012 11:00 am

Let’s get started!

Why don’t we take a tour of the actual clue? There are two pages – the first page includes the written instructions for the full clue, the second page has the chart. If you want to avoid spoilers and prefer to work from text, you may want to avoid the second page, as the chart resembles the finished product (of course, if you’re like me and love to ruin a good surprise, that’s always an option).
You can also download the blocking template. This will come in handy if you choose to block your motifs.
For this clue you’re going to need 1 to 2 balls of Main Color (MC), 1 ball of Contrast A, 1 ball of Contrast B, and 1 ball of Contrast C.
If you need a hand on any technique, just click on its name – it links to a video tutorial!

Skills You’ll Learn & Use:
  • Each skill in the list links to a video in our Video Library where you can learn the skill or remind yourself what to do.
  • Chain (ch)
  • Double crochet (dc)
  • Slip stitch (sl st)
  • Reading a crochet chart – The second page of the clue includes a chart you can follow instead of the written text.
  • Working into a chain-space - You'll be working into a chain-space in row 3.
  • Blocking motifs - Blocking can help a lot to make sure your motifs all end up the same size. You can start blocking your completed motifs right away, or wait until you are done with all of the squares. Download and print out the blocking template for this clue to ensure a standard motif size.
Tips:
  • If it’s your first time reading a crochet chart, I’d recommend working the first couple of squares while reading from both the written text and the chart – comparing the two. That will help you stay on track.
  • If you keep your ends about 12” inches long you can use them for seaming later.

Any questions? You can discuss the clue here!

Please do not post any photos to this thread. They belong in the "CAL Clue 1: Spoilers and Photos" thread!

When you're done with your clue the week, why not pat yourself on the back and add a badge to your signature?

Just open the User Control Panel's "Signature" page. In the field where you type your signature, add the code below and you'll be able to show off your progress!

FYI: This did not print out very well on a laser printer. I do not have a colour printer, so I need this in B&W. I cannot read it on paper, so will have to use my screen to work on the clue. I am so disappointed! But I am going to get to work on it right now! I won't let a little thing like printed copy stop me (but it might come in handy next week for you to know this)
