Knit-Along Clue 1

Has anyone made it to the first color change? I'm at the 25 th set of repeats and I have 58 stitches. I'm afraid visiting with my husband and son caused me to miss count... Ana's anyone else ran into this problem?

You should only be doing 24 repeats (there was an error in the initial PDF that's been corrected), so you get 55. Try looking back along the edge of the square for a point where it looks like it juts out more than the rest of the square. Or take a step back from the square and see if you notice any inconsistencies in the garter stitch - maybe you wrapped your yarn twice because you were distracted!

one quick question, though, on which colors would work best. i hadn't decided which were B, C, or D, so now i'm stuck trying to decide before i cast on!

i have Aqua Frost, Greek Sea, and Butter (all from Simplicity). would it be best to choose Butter as B so that each square has a similar contrast? or maybe Aqua Frost as B, where half the squares will be subtle and half will be a stark contrast?

Are you only using 3 colors? Or do you have 2 other colors as part of your set?

Knit Afghan
Contrast A – Highlight shade. It is possibly one of the most prominent shades in the afghan, and will also be used as the border to frame the afghan.
Contrast B – B, C, D, and E are intended to be “mellow blends.” They should go well with each other and contrast nicely with A. The effect of all these shades together is the look of a time-worn quilt.
Contrast C – See B.
Contrast D – See B.
Contrast E – See B.

Contrast A (55200 Aqua Frost – Main color story. A, B, and C should work well together.
Contrast B (55630 Butter) – See A.
Contrast C (55010 Colonial Beige) – See A.
Contrast D (55290 Turtle Green) – Accent shade. Should contrast A/B/C and not be too close in value and shade to them.

so, i think i'll go with: Birch White (MC), Aqua Frost (A), Butter (B), Greek Sea (C), and Bark (D). so these squares will both contrast on Butter, which is by far my favorite color of the bunch.

I agree. I see myself behind already just on the first week. Between work and family i will be luckly to get one sq done a day. Hopefully there will be weeks with a lot less to knit and I can catch up. No plans to even look at clue two when it comes up next week till I have finished all of clue one squares.

so, i think i'll go with: Birch White (MC), Aqua Frost (A), Butter (B), Greek Sea (C), and Bark (D). so these squares will both contrast on Butter, which is by far my favorite color of the bunch.

Would it look just as good as doing one color per block(assuming it a afghan full of blocks) Im a beginner knitter and im not so good at changeing colors in the middle of my work.. i know it wont look as colorfull but ... Thanks
