After assembly, my blocking square measures 9", not 9 1/2" as the pattern states. How do I fix that?

Poor little boy! :(
I remember when my boys were tiny like that. Just hated when they were sick.

Now, they are in their 20's, and taller than me! So, hang in there.....they get through all the sicknesses, and do grow up eventually, to become strong men.

Sounds like you need to use a larger knitting needle. What gauge are you getting?

Here's our discussion about getting gauge: viewtopic.php?f=191&t=1347

I think she means her blocking template is only 9". I might be wrong though! I often am.

I think I messed up the k p k in the first stitch though, but since it was the first row, it doesn't really show.

Are you sure you have the correct gauge and number of stitches/rows? It should be approximately 9.5" square.

I guess I will re-swatch. My sample swatch came out at 4", so I figured I was gold. Thank you for the info though. I just barely started the second square.

One thing I have learned in moderating forums is that people will say things in many different ways. I guess we will soon find out exactly what Freestar means. :hrmm:

You'll get tons of advice from the Waverly Fabrics interior designers in their Bernat Waverly Color Tutorial.
http://blog.bernat.com/2012/01/04/waver ... -tutorial/

One of the designers recommends this for the Knit Afghan:
Contrast A – Highlight shade. It is possibly one of the most prominent shades in the afghan, and will also be used as the border to frame the afghan.
Contrast B, C, D, and E are intended to be “mellow blends.” They should go well with each other and contrast nicely with A. The effect of all these shades together is the look of a time-worn quilt.
