PDF files are not actual size on your computer screen, they become that when printed (Most of the time)
You would be better to grab a ruler and measure a square out and draw that.
My template measures 4 1/4" (four and a quarter inches)
Hope this helps. Your motif could very well be the correct size and the PDF is off while on-screen

Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!!!! I didn't know that! I just drew it out,and my squares are right on! Thank you again!!!! :bravo: :bravo: :bravo:

The printed version might still be wrong. Check to make sure your printer is set to print "actual size", instead of "fit to page".

The template for the crochet square for Clue 1 should measure 4 1/2" x 4 1/2".

If you download the pdf file to your laptop and open it with adobe reader, you can measure it that way. Just make sure it says 100% at the top. :)

I just did a print test with my printer.

When I printed it without checking settings, it came out 4 1/4" square.
When I printed it and unchecked "fit to page", it came out 4 1/2" square.

The printed pattern calls for the squares to measure 4 1/2", so that is what the template should be.

Dang it, I just checked, the laser printer I have set up will not give me that option.
I am going to have to get hubby to figure out why it has disappeared on me. I know I used to have all sorts of printer options, maybe it has to do with our laser printer?
Cuz my copy is 4 1/4, not 4 1/2
Which means the photo I took way earlier is incorrect and the squares I have made since are all too small.

I'm glad no one else's looks like a square either because mine sure doesn't!

I also did a gauge swatch and ended up with a J hook. I tend to crochet tight I guess. I haven't had a chance to finish one of theses yet but will wait and see how the J does after the first one and then decide from there.
