Blocking Template - Check Printer Settings

When printing out your Blocking Templates for the Crochet-Along, please check your printer settings, or your template will print out the wrong size.

Most printers are set for "fit to page", so your document will include everything from the computer document on your page. But you need to print out the Bernat Blocking Templates as "actual size".

In this photo, I have shown both examples of a printing test I did in my home.
The one on the left was what I originally printed from the document. I didn't realize it was set for "fit to page". The one on the right is the one I printed tonight, after changing my printer settings to "actual size".

The actual size template on the right measures 4 1/2" x 4 1/2". This is what the pattern calls for in Clue #1.

The "fit to page" template on the left measures 4 1/4" x 4 1/4". Too small for our CAL.

Is the blocking template just to check the size of our motifs? Or are we really going to block them somehow? I thought that acrylic didn't really change when blocked, but I'm a very new crocheter and easily confused. Thanks!

They will be blocked so the pattern opens up and everything becomes a uniform size.

May I point out something I discovered?
I use Chrome so my settings are not the same as on my husbands computer where he uses FireFox (FF)
So if you do not have the options as Shandeh points out, check your browser.
I finally got mine to print properly when I had it printed from FF.

The attached photo displays my settings, so you can see how very basic and different they are.

Next question, the video only sort of tells us how to block. I always thought blocking was different? I wish the video had finished showing us instead of just telling, what a waste of an opportunity! I am still confused. I do plan on trying to block once I get all my tails tied in, but not quite sure how to finish it up with the towel.

For those with Chrome - I printed mine from Chrome and it was fine. In the print menu that comes up in Chrome, click on the little link at the bottom that says "Print Using System Dialog". It will bring up your regular printer dialog box. If you click Preferences (usually), it will bring up the preference stuff for your printer. You can select page size, etc from there. For my printer at work there is a tab that has options for printing full size, etc. Make sure you have "full size" (or something similar selected) and not any type of scaling.

For those on Firefox - be sure you don't have scaling selected there also as it's an option (especially if you use Print Preview and have ever selected it to "fit to page" and or "landscape" as FF likes to remember those things).

Sorry to hear that! We definitely left out a few steps, but they aren't difficult at all! After pinning your motif, all you need to do is place the slightly damp towel on top, and wait. And that's it! After it has dried fully, you remove the towel and all of the pins, and will have a beautifully shaped motif.
