I just finished one with a J hook and it is still small (4 1/4) but I'm just going to keep it at that size as I don't have a larger hook! I guess I crochet tight!

This is my first three from clue 1. These are contrast colors.
I apologize for the size of the picture. I'm not sure how to make it smaller.
This is my first time doing one of these. This is going to fun.

When I printed it without checking settings, it came out 4 1/4" square.
When I printed it and unchecked "fit to page", it came out 4 1/2" square.

Dang it, I just checked, the laser printer I have set up will not give me that option.
I am going to have to get hubby to figure out why it has disappeared on me. I know I used to have all sorts of printer options, maybe it has to do with our laser printer?
Cuz my copy is 4 1/4, not 4 1/2
Which means the photo I took way earlier is incorrect and the squares I have made since are all too small.

Bummer!
I hate when stuff like that happens. :rainy:

Here is what my printer setting look like when I print. (But, of course, every printer screen looks completely different.)

I used to crochet tight like that too! But, now I have arthritis, and have had to learn to loosen my grip on the hook. I had to change the way I hold it too. And I have to keep it slow and steady. Now, I'm used to it.

It's funny, during my gauge test square I needed one hook up to make it, this one fit the template perfect using hook 5. I had planned on making it several times to get the right size, but only did it once so far - unless this is wrong ...

Does anyone else use the magic circle technique?[/color]

I had the same experience with previous CAL. I had to go to a size down when doing squares in the round. For this clue #1, I used 4.5mm crochet and the size was perfect.
