My first square (yes, I finished my first square, YEAH!) is measuring about 10" x 10". Will I run out of yarn with keeping my squares this size? Or do I need to start over with a smaller needle. I like BIG afghans. LOL

There's a definite possibility you'll run out of yarn, because your bigger square uses up more yarn than one that's 9.5"x9.5". I suggest you start over (I know, I know!) and maybe do a gauge swatch first with a pair of needles one size down, to see what that would get you.

You should only be doing 24 repeats (there was an error in the initial PDF that's been corrected), so you get 55. Try looking back along the edge of the square for a point where it looks like it juts out more than the rest of the square. Or take a step back from the square and see if you notice any inconsistencies in the garter stitch - maybe you wrapped your yarn twice because you were distracted!

Where is the corrected PDF? When I click on the link to download clue #1 it still says 26 repeats.

I think it's a silly server thing. Try clearing your browser's cache and download history, then download the PDF again.

Or you can just knit until you get to 55 stitches - I found that much easier than counting my repeats.

That worked! Thanks

Thank you, but I did do a gauge swatch on the 8 needle and everything measured correctly, so I continued on with that needle. Anything else to suggest - maybe stopping at 53 or 51 stitches?

I ran into the same problem. I did a gauge swatch on size 8 needles and my square ended up at about 11" !! It definitely looks like I went from knitting pretty tightly at the beginning, to not so much about 15 rows in. Probably because it was getting so late. Would I be better to go ahead and buy an extra skein of each color to accommodate how much larger my knitting is? I'm worried that if I go ahead and not use the first one I made, I'll run out of yarn anyway since I knit such a big square that I won't be using.

I am slowly making progress on this. I'm up to 31 stitches on my first colour. I took a peek at the spoilers, because I like to know what it's going o look like and if I'm doing it right and I have a feeling that my finished product is going to look really nice. I can't wait to finish it!

Finished my first square last night. I must say I absolutely love the Waverly yarn; it feels so good in my hands ;-) I'm knitting it with bamboo needles size 8.

I'm using Intense as A, Willow as B, Pink Suede as C, Sun Drift as D and Irish Moss as E. I decided to make Willow B because it is used the most in clue 1 and I think my sister will like that (the afghan is for her).

I did ok on guaging - my first square is just at 9 1/2 inches! Hope I can keep that up :cloud9:
