Finished my first block. 9.25 inches. Not sure how to make the image small, sorry.

I've gotten out some handicrafter yarn and am knitting a practice square with it. So, to all the other newbies out there - at least we will have something to keep us busy over the next week...

Yeah, that is not my favorite increase either. Probably because of my arthritis, and the fact that I'm a tight knitter.

Yes. I was working on the clue, and did a few rows, then placed a stitch marker on the side where I was doing the increases. From then on, I was able to easily know which side was the one for doing increases.

But there are two sides to add an increase. The first stitch and the second to last. Or i am doing it wrong. Also i dont seem to need to know the front or the back because it is all knit and looks the same. So as far as the clue saying to "mark the right side" what does that mean?

I see you have the dangly yarns where you changed colours - I have those as well, but a friend who knits said I should have knit them into the square as I knit along. Can anyone tell me if they dangly things should be there or should they be knit in to the square. Thanks

Under other circumstances I would have wove those in but I thought we were supposed to leave the "tails" to use for stitching the blocks together later..

I could be wrong

If you go to page one of the clue you will see the following under tips "Keep your ends about 12" inches long because you'll be using them for seaming later. Tie those ends into a neat knot to get them out of the way!"

Hope this answers your question

You will do both increases on the same row, on the right side of the fabric.
The "right side" means the side that will be showing when you display the blanket. The "wrong side" is the side that will be face down. The right side is the "pretty" side of the fabric.

If you're doing garter stitch, the right side and wrong side are not very obvious. But, you will see it when you do the color change. The color change will have a "break" on the wrong side of the fabric.
