I experimented with both. I have been knitting almost 60 years and teach knitting at my local public library.

The reason they have it done this way is that it gives you the same edge on all four sides not just two and two. I wondered about that too but once I got the first square done I realized it really works perfectly for what they want.

this is my first large knitting project. I learned to knit almost 50 years ago as a 1st grader but I didn't take to it, learned to crochet 2 years later and have been crocheting ever since. Have tried knitting several times over the years since but really want to give this a try.

I too had trouble with the k1 p1 k1 in the first stitch  (all the instructions I found show just one add) and had to do it several times, then ended up ripping out and started over after about 10 rows. 4 hours + later I'm at the color change and quit for the night as I'm too tired to figure out the next step.

This one is much slower going than the crochet along, I got all 12 squares for the crochet one done yesterday evening. Well guess that gives me time to try to master this square.

I am a very slow knitter. I asked my sister to choose my colors for the KAL, so I could let her make most of this blanket. I'm only making one square of each clue, and letting her finish the rest of them. I'm only halfway through my one square.

I'm actually doing the CAL project but could not resist the temptation to try the first clue of the KAL as well since I love knitting.

First square is done but I noticed that the edge where you increase at the beginning of the row (in the 1st stitch) is a bit sloppy and more stretchy than the other three edges. Didn't look too good to me. Am I the only one having a problem with that?

Since it bothered me I did try the following: once I had 5 stitches on my needle I started increasing in the 2nd stitch instead of in the 1st stitch and the edge looked much better and more conform to the other edges. Maybe this might help someone.

I am a new knitter (since January) and I struggled with the first row. I thought "what have I gotten myself into"! The videos got me through and I have just passed the color change. I am working with bamboo needles and love them! The marker on the increase/decrease side is a MUST. That way you just stop @ 55 stitches, and you know when to do the addition/subtraction, no brainer. Very excited. I feel like I will learn so much! FUN FUN

This has been a tough one for a new (seriously so new I would not even refer to myself as a "knitter") - to work on the diagnol and increases (which I have never done before). The first one I am working on now will have to be frogged since there is an error on row 3-4; I continued to work on improving my increase stitches ... knitting is a slower labor or love than crochet - but I like the difference in the stitching. I finished my CAL blocks quite quickly - this is not going to happen for this project (the quick part at least). ok - back to the needles!!

I have finished my 1st block ( Woo Hoo!) I even have it bocked out. Now, should I leave my marker in to mark the RS or can I take it out? I'm running low on my markers and using yarn doesn't work too well for me.

I've only been knitting about 2 years but I learned to Crochet way back when (about 25 year) I have found I LOVE knitting! I can't seem to finish crochet projects but I have actually finished a few Knitting projects. I am looking forward to actually making a full afghan.

I am about halfway through with the 1st block of Clue 1, but am a little confused. The instructions say to repeat rows #5 and #6 26 times - 52 stitches increased plus the original 7 stitches, which equals 59 stitches. However, the instructions say there should be 55 stitches at this point. Am I missing something? Hesitate to go any further because I don't want these Clue 1 blocks to be the wrong size to fit with future blocks.

Thanks,
Knitaholic
