Knitaholic wrote:I am about halfway through with the 1st block of Clue 1, but am a little confused. The instructions say to repeat rows #5 and #6 26 times - 52 stitches increased plus the original 7 stitches, which equals 59 stitches. However, the instructions say there should be 55 stitches at this point. Am I missing something? Hesitate to go any further because I don't want these Clue 1 blocks to be the wrong size to fit with future blocks.

Thanks,

There was a mistake in the pattern. You're supposed to repeat rows #5 and #6 only 24 times.

Woo Hoo! First Block done. The second half seemed to fly compared to the first. Probably had something to do with me checking counts constantly. Hopefully now that I've got the first one done the others will be a lot faster.
Time for bed though, and I'm hoping tomorrow will be cooler. Knitting in 37Celsius weather isn't really that comfortable.

BUT the color of the clue (lt blue I think!) is so light that it was much to hard to read! :( didn't want to have to sit at the computer or print it off, just wanted to use my smart phone or Nook. Anyone else have trouble reading the clues? BTW they look fine on my computer.

Situations like this is why we provided the plain text clue. It's in the first post on this thread, and should just be black and white for you :)

The first one I am working on now will have to be frogged since there is an error on row 3-4; I continued to work on improving my increase stitches ... knitting is a slower labor or love than crochet - but I like the difference in the stitching. I finished my CAL blocks quite quickly - this is not going to happen for this project (the quick part at least). ok - back to the needles!!

The knitting will get faster for you as you practice. :D I'm an experienced knitter but have never knit on the diagonal either! :) So...a lot of us are learning new stuff. LOL! I have done a lot of crochet in the past, but the movement of my hand holding the crochet hook tends to irritate my wrist. So I don't do it much anymore. But I do love to put crochet edgings on some of my knitted projects. In the past (like 20-30 years ago) there wasn't as much help for us knitters (or at least I didn't know where to get help) like there is now. The knitting shows on TV and all of the help we can get on the internet now days is wonderful, so I've been much more confident in knitting over the past 5 years! Don't be afraid to ask for help here on the forum, because there's lots of it when you need it!! :knit:

I've only been knitting about 2 years but I learned to Crochet way back when (about 25 year) I have found I LOVE knitting! I can't seem to finish crochet projects but I have actually finished a few Knitting projects. I am looking forward to actually making a full afghan.

You can take out your marker. The WS has a line break in it where you changed your color.

Working from corner to corner is simply a different technique. What exactly are you having issues with?

Here's a YouTube video for how to knit, purl, knit into one stitch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pP_UHylNAMQ

Thanks for the video. The visual made all the difference for me. Now I can finally move past row 1

I had to watch the inc video 5 or 6 times but I finally got it! Cant wait to get out of work and learn to dec and change colors!

Ok, redid the swatch and then checked the pattern again. I did 26 rows, not 26 repeats of the last 2 rows. Now my square is 9.5". Thanks for pointing this out, before I was done with all the squares. :knit:

I think the right side will be obvious, because you'll see the break in the color change on the wrong side. No need for markers when you finish the squares.
