I was wondering if I was in for more problems as I get further into my skeins, but maybe I just picked the wrong few to start with. Love the feel of the yarn - just hate that there are these "joins"!

I would check with them about it, and tell them the details. I'm sure they want to know if you are having issues with one of their yarns.

I haven't found any knots, but I am concerned about the inconsistent thickness of the yarn. I just finished my first square Waverly Willow (Color B) and Waverly Butter (Color D). The Butter yarn is much thicker than the Willow, so much so my gauge changed. I tried knitting the Butter with a needle one size smaller, but still ended up with a really wonky square. I am an experienced knitter and my tension is even. Not quite sure what to do now!

Shandeh,
What would be the best way to contact Bernat and to whom do I address this concern? Thanks!

I am using Waverly purchased direct from Bernat and I have run into 3 knots in the first half of my first knitted square, so many short bits knotted together, not impressed. I also felt a change in yarn weight as I changed colours, but it dosen't seem to be enough to really mess up the tension.

Unfortunately joins in the yarn are necessary because of the spinning process, it's the nature of the beast :( I think it depends on the dye lot - I've been through about five skeins of Waverly on my end but haven't come across a knot yet.

If you'd like to talk to Customer Service about the issue, email inquire@bernat.com.

I've talked with them a year or so ago, when I needed to go out and buy some more baby yarn to complete a blanket for a gift, and found out the entire baby yarn had totally changed to a more shiny/slick surface and was terrible to work with. The twisted ply's would come loose and gaps when crocheting with it... and the feel was just really "cheap" and poor quality.

Their response, "we changed yarn vendors"... and that was about it. Had to improvise with other brands of yarn to make the thing look right with a weird & huge border. Wasn't too impressed with service or resolution. Or how the blanket looked - as it wasn't up to my "par".

All in all I love the yarns and the patterns, but the customer service was far less than I expected it to be.

Best wishes on that one!

Blue Gown & Beautiful Blue

Postby eisdnil » Mon Feb 27, 2012 10:22 am

Hi KALers,

Thought I'd share a "DOH" moment that will hopefully help someone else out. This probably doesn't apply to those of you who ordered yarn from Bernat online. I bought my yarn in store at Michaels

I realized yesterday that I had purchased 1 ball of Blue Gown and 2 balls of Beautiful Blue as my colour D. These blues are SO close in shade and ended up mixed in the same bin! Luckily I managed to exchange them! Those using these blues might want to check their skeins too! I should have also checked the dye lots but didn't think and just grabbed and went... lesson learned!

yes, you are right....I ordered them to be 2 of my 5 colours, and was very disappointed to see how close in colour they were to each other...But, my daughter is doing the CAL, while I do the KAL, and I was able to switch one of my colours with one of her colours. Thankfully, we each had the same number of balls of those colours, and our palettes were similar enough that we could switch, and still have all the colours in both afghans go well together. I'd ordered the yarn on line, so I didn't know how I would have been able to exchange it otherwise.
