This is my first time doing the mystery CAL. I am so exicted. My mom and I are both doing the crochet version. It will be neat to see mystery unravel be for our eyes.

I have been crocheting for a lot of years. This is my first crochet-along. I have started but not completed clue #1. This is so much fun.

Greetings I am a first timer to the Bernat Crochet-Along and am very excited about the opportunity to learn more stitches. I had a friend teach me along time ago on the basic single and double crochet stitches. So I know I have a lot to learn. I have never learned how to read a pattern so the instructions are a little tough for me to understand. Very excited to finally have the CAL Clue 1 and started working on it last evening. It was like waiting for Christmas the whole month of January.
Happy Crocheting. :knit:

Welcome! :hellogoodbye:

Did you figure out how to make Clue #1?

I made a simple video to help with the very beginning of the square.

Im a CAL newbie too! I already completed my squares and started the blocking now so I can keep up with the clues. Its also the first time I used a pattern, it was a lot easier than I thought. Im used to cross stitch patterns, but the crochet ones always looked more difficult. Being able to refer the the written and visual really helped. Thanks Bernat crew..looking forward to the next clue!!

Hi, I am relatively new to crochet but am totally hooked....pardon the pun  I started my squares last night and made 5 already. Yippeee! I have a question that I'm sure is answered some where but I could not find it. What is blocking and how do I do it?

My "squares" have a slightly round look to them, after seeing the pictures posted I know I'm on track and hope blocking will help. Thanks in advance for any guidance you can provide.

Blocking is how to shape a piece to what you want it to be. There are a couple of methods. In either method you use wires and/or pins to help hold the shape of the piece. There is a method using just water, but I don't really know it so hopefully someone else can share that. I use steam for blocking. Once the piece is pinned you just pass an iron on the steam setting over the piece, keeping it about 1-2 inches above the yarn (don't let it touch! it goes badly  ), and make sure it is evenly heated and steamed. Then let it cool a bit and you can flip it and steam the other side to make sure it's all equally heated, steamed, and relaxed.

Hope that helps :)

Thank you, Tiffanna, that was a great explanation. Guess I know what I'll be attempting next. ;)

Here's our discussion about blocking.

This is my first mystery quilt. I just finished clue one and can hardly wait until tomorrow. How do I use the icon to mark my progress?
