I'll start!

I'm Jen, and I've been working on web content for Bernat for almost 3 years. I'm very excited to be a part of these new forums and have more interaction with everyone out there who gets as excited about Bernat Yarns as I do.

I started knitting about 11 years ago, and have only been crocheting for 5 years or so. Currently I'm obsessed with crochet and can't get enough of it.

I'm from Southern California, but right now I'm up in frosty Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

I love crafting motifs because they're so portable, and I tend to prefer mindless knitting/crochet I can do while watching TV over something crazy intense.

I am always trying new hobbies, including spinning and weaving. I'm also learning how to sew! I took a class in 2010 and now I'm trying to make my own clothes (so far with limited success). I may need some advice from folks on here about that...

Since I made the survey I might as well answer it! :) I'm Kaleigh, another Bernat web content coordinator. When the Waverly for Bernat Mystery Afghan KAL/CAL kicks off, you'll see me running the knit side.

Do you knit and/or crochet? I knit! I know a couple crochet stitches, but I've never made anything. (That's a lie... I tried to make a granny square once, but it ended up as an amorphous granny blob.)
How long have you been knitting and/or crocheting? My mum taught me 4 years ago.
Where are you from? Toronto, ON.
What are your favorite things to make? HATS! Anybody who knows me can attest to this. I like working in the round, I like that sooner or later the pattern will change up, and I like the instant gratification.
What other hobbies do you have? Reading, video games, and making jokes lame enough that Jen heaves a "what am I doing here" kind of sigh.

Y'all are funny.
Yes, I said "y'all".....because I live in the Southern USA.

I've been a North Carolinian my entire life.
But, I'm connected to the ENTIRE WORLD on the internet. So cool! :cooldude:

Anyway, I'll move on to answering the survey Kaleigh posted earlier:

Do you knit and/or crochet? Both

How long have you been knitting and/or crocheting? I tried to learn knitting in high school in the 1970's, but it was an utter disaster. I looked with longing at my sister's knitted creations, but didn't have the patience back then to make it happen on my needles. That was before the internet existed, so the only guidance I had was in books and crafting magazines. :reading: Believe me....those little drawings they had just did NOT help! :rainy:

Next, I tried crochet, with some one-on-one help from my boyfriend's mother. THAT, I could handle! I made granny squares back then, using the one or two skeins of acrylic yarn I could afford at the local KMart. When I was in my 20's, I had to set aside my crochet, because I was busy raising little boys (I had 3 of them).

In September of 2003, I was on the brink of turning 40, and was not too happy about it. My therapist told me to make some goals to fulfill. So, I wrote a list of things I wanted to accomplish, which included KNITTING. By this time, the internet was alive, so I was able to pull up some instructional videos to watch. AWESOME! :D Instead of pulling out my old yarn that was stored in the attic, I went to Walmart and bought a bright red skein of worsted weight acrylic, and a set of size 9 knitting needles. Then, I planted myself in front of my computer, and watched those free knitting videos (Knitting Help Forum) over and over and over. It took about a week for me to fully understand the knit and purl stitches.....and I was addicted. I don't even remember what else I had on my list of goals back then. I didn't need them anymore, because knitting satisfied me COMPLETELY.

I've learned a LOT about knitting since 2003, and consider myself an intermediate/advanced knitter. I know how to do most every knitting technique, and I enjoy teaching others to knit.

A while back, Bernat had a Mystery Blanket Crochet-Along, and I really wanted to learn to crochet again, so I joined in and just loved it. I'm still learning crochet, so I might need some help from the rest of you.

Where are you from? Already answered above. North Carolina, USA

What are your favorite things to make? Hmmmm.....that's impossible to answer, because my favorite things change all the time. When I first started knitting, I loved making furry scarves with novelty yarns. Then, I learned how to make nice stitch designs with knit and purl stitches, so I loved making baby booties and dishcloths. Next, I learned to knit in the round, so I became addicted to hats and socks. Then, I learned fair-isle knitting, so I made lots and lots of Christmas stockings. In 2009, I started blogging for Bernat Yarn, and had the freedom to make whatever I want, using any yarn they could provide. This opened up all KINDS of options for me, so I made blankets and sweaters and all sorts of stuff. Now, I don't really have a "favorite" per se....I just keep learning more techniques and trying out all the new yarns that Bernat comes out with. The adventure continues....

What other hobbies do you have? I am an internet addict, and I love playing video games (the Sims, and mystery adventures). I also have a Wii, and enjoy playing Animal Crossing, or exercising with the Wii Fit Plus. As for other crafting hobbies, I have a lot of those: Sewing, Embroidery, Crewel Embroidery, Spinning (learning), Weaving (absolute beginner), Dyeing Yarn, and Needlepoint. I used to do cross-stitch, but had to stop because my vision doesn't allow me to read the charts like I used to.

I also love to read. I've read most of Jules Verne, Michael Crichton, CS Lewis, JRR Tolkein, and I'm working on Agatha Christie now. When I was younger, I enjoyed stories about wizards and princesses and time travel. Now, I'm getting more into reality-based works. I enjoy watching forensic investigation programs, and absolutely love it when the criminal is caught! Along those lines, I watch Poirot, Miss Marple, Columbo, Monk, CSI, Midsomer Murders, A Touch of Frost, etc. I can see most of those shows on Netflix, while knitting or crocheting. ;)

I want to learn more things, including how to draw and paint. I've always been amazed by artwork. I could spend hours just admiring one painting. It would be a real joy if I could make even a simple painting one day.

Oh! Forgot to mention that I am a musician! I've been playing piano since I was 11, and organ since I was 15. I've been a church musician since 1979, when I was 15 years old. Every week, I perform a few solo pieces, and play accompaniment for the choir to sing. I occasionally play for weddings and funerals, and do some gigs at hotel openings, parties, and other events. To pass on the music, I teach piano lessons to about 20 students. They are fun to work with, and keep me young. :)

So, now my survey is complete. Everyone can have their coffee break now. :hellogoodbye:

Hi, I am Amanda, I live in British Columbia Canada.

I am excited about this crochet- a -long because I just redecorated my living room and would love to make a blanket for it. I knit and crochet. I thought about doing both of the challenges because I like crocheting best, and I thought that a knitted blanket would be a nice change since I have crocheted ones all over the place!! However, I have decided to stick with crochet this time. When I saw how the colours are divided for the crochet I visioned a nice main colour taking up most of the blanket, so even though I have no idea what the pattern will be like (I'm so excited!) I think I"ll like the crochet one. I would love some input from someone here on colour choice; I will post a question in the other thread.

How long have you been knitting and/or crocheting? I don't remember how long. I think I was five when I first learned how to knit and I made little scarves for my dolls, then I learned to crochet at about 7 and made huge granny square blankets. So I have been going pretty strong for over 35 years.

What are your favorite things to make? EVERYTHING! I have knitted sweaters and hats and sample cable scarves (I like cables) and I crochet dishcloths, potholders, blankets, tops, hats, doilies, slippers, toys, anything I want. I love crocheting, but usually prefer the look of knitting.

What other hobbies do you have? I run and hike and tap dance. I sew only when I have to although I do enjoy thinking about possibly quilting one day. I am going to start taking swimming lessons this week; this is something else I am looking forward to.

I enjoyed reading the other introductions and look forward to blogging, sending photos and crocheting along!

I think it's so cool that you tap dance!
And I have always wanted to learn to quilt too. Maybe one day.

Hi, I'm Lotty and I live in Pennsylvania.

I am so excited to be taking part in this newest KAL/CAL. The last one I did was a crochet afghan and it turned out beautifully. This time I am going to knit. The Waverly colors are just beautiful.

I knit and crochet both but I perfer knitting. There is just something about the needles clacking together that is soothing and relaxing to me.

I have been knitting and crocheting for so long I can't really remember when I learned. I was very young.

My favorite things to knit/crochet are varied. I have knitted a few sweaters, afghans, hats, mitts, mittens, scarfs, dishcloths, towel toppers, scrubbies, baby layettes and I knitted 10 pair of socks this Christmas, one pair for every member of my family.

Other hobbies I indulge in are rubber stamping/card making, quilting, and looking at craft sites on the internet I also like to read. Debbie Macomber is my favorite author and I love to read books that have a knitting or quilting theme. I also like to do crossword puzzles.

I am looking forward to getting started on this project, meeting the other participants and looking at all the wonderful pictures that will be posted of everyones progress.

Do you knit and/or crochet? I knit

How long have you been knitting and/or crocheting? Since fall 2005. I actually learned to knit as a child but never made anything other than a headband.

Where are you from? I grew up in Kentucky but have also lived in Alaska, Alabama, Illinois, New Jersey, Kansas, and Oklahoma where I now live.

What are your favorite things to make? Anything without a gauge. I knit mostly for relazation so I don't want to have to worry about fit.

What other hobbies do you have? I love to travel -- I have lived in or visited 49 states. I love to read and can devour a book in a day or so. I also love to swim and to sleep.

Hi Lotty!
WOW!!!!! TEN pairs of socks for Christmas! :o I am in AWE! :notworthy:

Have you read the books about fictional character Betsy Devonshire, the owner of the "Crewel World" craft shop? They are written by Monica Ferris, and I really enjoyed reading them.

No way! You HAVE travelled a lot!
Up until last year, I had only been up and down the East Coast. But in 2011, my sister bought me a plane ticket to visit her in California. But, I haven't been to any of the central states. My dream would be to go to Hawaii one day, but I would probably hate the actual travel time. I'm really bad in airplanes, and a ship would probably be even worse. I'm just a scaredy-cat. :scared: If I could travel everywhere by car or train, I would be more like you.
