Here is a picture of the jig with finishing nails that my husband made for steaming or spraying the squares. I used my fine knitting needles to shape the edges and put the square thus ormed over the corner nails and used the surge of steam in my iron, and then after a minute or so turned the piece over and repeated the steaming. The other white one is ready to do so it may show how much it relaxes with the steam. The other two were done by spraying, also using the jig.

Further to the previously posted picture with the jig for blocking, I have also experimented with using child play mats (from the Dollar Store) to first mark a square the desired size and then pin the crocheted square in place, also using the fine needles to make the sides straight. I used the fine spray of water from a spray bottle to moisten them and left them to air dry. The others shown are waiting to be done and certainly look round!
These two pictures show three of my chosen colours, Birch White, Colonial Beige and Bark and I also have Aqua Frost and Greek Sea. They look great together!

ahhh .. thanks for those links. I've been looking for an easier way to resize. I was doing things manually in paint.

I picked the same colors and I love them. The bark and beige are colors I would not usually pick but the Waverly colors are so ..?... subtle that they blend great with the aqua and greek sea colors... Nice surprise! Yours look great after blocking. I wasn't going to block mine until I saw how nice yours turned out. Thanks for the pictures and helpful hints.

blocking Wires

Postby GrannyJean » Mon Feb 20, 2012 3:08 pm

Hi
I'm using 2 sets of size 13 (Canadian) needles as wires for blocking my squares. They make nice straight edges

Not sure how to make this smaller, out of time now.
I don't have a template, just use the kleenex box to make sure the corners are square :P and measure to make sure it is 9.5" each direction
Hope this shows what you would like to know - if not, maybe I can help more
