I finished ONE baby hat, but missed the deadline for the CURE event.
So, I'll just hold onto it until I see another charity baby hat drive.

I like how it turned out. :D

Several years ago there was shelter in WV where the dogs had to stay outside in the below freezing weather, plea for sweaters and coats, I crocheted some sweaters for dogs and hat and scarf for volunteer. My dog Bonnie tried one on for size, she was not impressed!
Then my little foster had bad hips and there was thought she might need hip surgery so I crocheted afghan to help defray some of the vetting cost through raffle. Then they decided against the surgery, and no I have no idea where the afghan is, I never get a reply when I ask the person I left it with. I would really like to send it to her new adoptive family.
Have crocheted boxes full of slippers and hats and afghan squares and they go to Online Angels, but the mailing cost is prohibitive so there are boxes of them in my truck too. You can get Presidential service award for donating things with that program.

My charity stuff (so far). My daughter was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 12. For several years, we did fundraising for the JDRF Walks. 2011 was crazy for us with her high school graduation and college visits and orientations and .. and... well, you get the idea. We just didn't have the time (or, honestly, energy) to to a full fledged fundraising thing. I had the opportunity to donate something to another fundraiser a friend of mine does every year on Long Island. He does a big pig roast with a huge silent auction to raise money for Diabetes Research Institute. Several of us Type 1 moms (and grandmoms) decided to donate stuff for a basket to be auctioned off. So I loom knitted the blanket below. 3 colors to represent blood checks, diabetes awareness (gray), and DRI's color (blue).

This year, I am donating to another friend's fundraiser in Kansas City. Two scarves I have made (one crochet, one on the loom).

Finally, the "moms" have been asked to put together a basket of things for another charity - Diabetes Scholars Foundation (they do college scholarships and diabetes conference family scholarships). For that, I'm donating this CAL we are doing now. This has been my intention from the beginning. I have also been asked to make a baby blanket for a baby basket they are doing at the same auction. That one comes after I finish a blanket for my new niece (due in April).

Donations for Benefit - April 2012

Postby missdarling22 » Sun Mar 04, 2012 11:08 pm

Hi all,
I attend Church of the Heartland in Plymouth, IN. ON February 17th a teen from our church was hit by a car and is still in the hospital. There will be a hog roast and auction on April 21st with proceeds going to the family to cover hospital expenses. I am writing this tonight to see if anyone would be willing to donate any knit or crochet items to auction off at the benefit? If you would like to contribute please message me for more details
Thank you for your kindness,
Angi

Hi,

Just an idea...

I found a crochet pattern for a hooded baby blanket, and found some pink yarn too! I will be making that. Somewhat apprehensive about starting ANOTHER project but it is working up very quickly. Maybe others could crochet a simple item like a bib, or hat and we can get that all together for baby girl's set. Maybe the knitters could make a blue baby set. I know Bernat has a lot of baby patterns. If we post the item we are making, maybe it will help others see what they could add.

Must be good karma about making this. This morning tackled another turkey size skein of yarn to find beginning inside. Found it with no problem!

That's a great idea. What color and brand yarn r u doing? I have a friend who could do a hat and or bib
Also do you foster dogs? I have a friend who does and she loves it. She always has about 5 dogs in her house at any given time!

I am using some Lion Pound of Love Pink. It comes in a huge skein and it is rather difficult to find the starting end in the middle. :) I have some variegated pink/white/beige but I do not know what brand, that I will be using for the trim if I have enough. Even though both yarns are thick enough to use an H hook, they are both very soft. I really don't think it would be so necessary that it all matches though. Just thought you could get enough little things in each color, I had suggested pink and blue, so you could make little gifts sets with the items. I am sure any baby sort of color would be greatly appreciated, whether knitted or crocheted. That way we all could contribute a little something and you would have some nice sets to donate.

I know Bernat has some oven glove patterns too. Maybe some of them and some potholders for kitchen sets?
Thinking people are busy with a potholder CAL, they could donate some of them.

Yes, I foster dogs. I started out fostering puppies which are a lot of work but so much fun. That worked out well because I am retired so had the time to get them housebroken, crate trained, etc. very easily. Recently I have been fostering two dogs for a long time, they have some medical issues. One was adopted last month and I miss her so much. Hopefully the other will dog will be going to his new home soon too. He had some behavioural issues as well, but has turned into a very nice companion. I find it very rewarding and I am so appreciative that I can work the rescue. It is breed specific, BC, but we take in a lot of mixes too. I have six of my own dogs, and eight cats, they keep me busy.

Yes, the hooded blanket will be done in time. I will have to wait until 4/2 to mail it though but sure it will arrive in time.
