From what I read researched blocking is 'stretching and shaping a finished knitted piece to reach the dimensions suggested in the pattern', so does that mean that my 8 inch squares can be stretched to 9 1/2" without distorting the look, or is that too much?

That's too much for them to stretch. When the blanket is washed, the squares will shrink back to their normal size, and things could get weird in the seaming. So, if your squares are too small, it's best to switch to larger needles.

The photo you saw did not have the squares seamed together. They are just blocked closely together. The squares will be joined much later in the KAL, and Bernat will tell us how they should be arranged. For now, just knit your squares, keeping Color A, B, C, D, and E consistent throughout the KAL. Blocking them just makes them all the same size.

After working down to 5 stitches there is also a row of knit to again get it to the correct side for doing the final rows of decrease???

Sounds right to me. But, if you are unhappy with the look of your decrease side, you could probably skip that last row of knitting with the 5 stitches, and just decrease instead.

The colors are much prettier in person than what they look like in the picture. I made a mistake on the decrease rows for the first two squares. I'll see later if it bothers me enough to correct it on a catch-up week. I am half way done with my 5th square, will be lucky to get 6 done this week.

Hi PioneerKnitter! :hellogoodbye: I love your yarn colors!! So pretty! :cloud9:

I hate to frog the whole block, but need to make it bigger. :hrmm:

That's a good idea!

Thank you for the reply, I was hoping this would not ruin the look of the afghan!!! :bravo:

I ripped out the purple half and re-did it writing out how many rows and what the stitch count should be after each row of decrease. It still came out a bit off but much better than my 1st try.

I am using yarn I had not the Waverly.

to me it looks like you only decreased on one side on the first, and on the second you can see the decreases on both sides, but maybe you still were skipping on occasion. I am just saying what I see, good luck!!

All of my squares are done, right on time according to my own schedule. Here is the evidence.

Looks to me that you knitted the decrease rows with a much tighter tension than the increase rows. I had the same problem the first time I did squares on the diagonal. Try relaxing those decrease rows.
