My first pillow

Postby mittenmaker » Tue Feb 21, 2012 6:07 pm

Hi! :hellogoodbye: This is my first pillow project, knitted using one 7-oz skein of Bernat Super Value in "Bronze."
Pillow is 14" square. I used size 7 needles. I just loved every minute of this project! It worked up *Very* quickly.
If you purchase the pillow form on sale (Jo-Ann has them for 50% off occasionally, and of course there's coupons!) including the cost of the yarn (I pay $3.19 @ Meijer) you can make a nice gift for $10 or less!
The stitch is called Andalusian stitch. I added one stitch on each end of row for selvedge.

Very nice, I might do one after the KAL as a bonus to it since this afghan is a gift for one of my sons ;)

Thanks needlenut! :D The stitch is very simple, but I think is quite elegant. Couldn't be easier--it works on multiples of 2 stitches. Row 1: Knit. Row 2: Purl. Row 3: *K1, P1. Repeat from * across row. Row 4: Purl.
That's it! The needles are Birch, (size 7) I asked my husband for them for Christmas. He ordered from Knitpicks. They are a dream to knit with. :knit: :cloud9: Have a great day!

Hi zhanie! :hellogoodbye: I am very flattered that you like my pillow. I chose Bronze to match the pillows on my couch. My couch is like a dark terracotta color with gold and terracotta pillows that came with it. And my curtains are a gold (think 1960's "harvest gold" ;) ) color. Oh, today I bought another skein of BSV in Redwood heather--on sale @ Meijer for $2.69!!!! :D :D :D I couldn't resist as I have always loved that color and have had my eye on it for a long time. Probably going to be another pillow for me or my mom--and I'd like to use some for a few squares for my patchwork sampler blanket for Mr. Jingles. I'll probably end up going back for more. I'm a Yarn Addict now --Officially!!  Movin' on up in the world! :D I hope you enjoy making your pillow as much as I did mine. It was a joy. Have fun with the KAL! :cloud9:

Thanks for the details on the stitch. I would like to make a pillow to put in the car and I think this might be the one. Gotta finish the stepping waves afghan first, though. So much yarn, so little time..... :knit:

I agree, needlenut! I plan a project, then find new yarn and then start working with the new stuff on a different project. More dreams and ideas than time! :idonno: ;)
And like you, when I am working on a big important project like you are, I like to devote my time and attention to that project. It seems to get done faster that way, for me at least!
I wish I had more hands so that I could knit more stuff!!
Glad you like the stitch! It seems to be one that would lend itself to many different kinds items!
Keep on with the afghan, it really is gorgeous!

Hi! I am doing thé knit along afghan project and want à couple of cushions to go with it. This Will be perfect! I see thé stitch pattern but am curious as to how many stitches to cast on to get 14" with pillow form inside? Also, did you make the back thé same? Did you knit one long rectangle and just fold up and ses thé sides? Or how did you assemblé?
