an increase is knitting TWICE into the same stitch. When they say knit below, they mean skip the next stitch in current row but KNIT INTO THE STITCH directly below it from the last row. You then move one to the NEXT stitch in the current row...

hope that helps!

:knit: Is there a reason that the cable cast on is used? I usually use the long tail cast on, is that okay?

Totally fine! Cast on whichever way you like. The cable cast on is what we tend to include in our books for consistency.

I am using long tail cast on for my square, and it looks just fine.

My clue 1 squares came out 8 1/2 inches, will I be able to block them to 9 1/2 to match the clue 2 squares?

Very cool stitch! I have used the "stitch below" technique in crochet to create long stitches but never in knit. I love how it looks! Thanks for something new!! :cloud9:

This fabric will naturally stretch over time, so having an 8 1/2" square right now is okay - but did you remember to stretch it widthwise to 9 1/2"? When you do that it becomes a little shorter - so make sure you have the rows to reach the right height when the fabric is stretched.

Quick clarification - the blocking template hasn't changed - it's the same? So I don't have to re-print it?
Thanks :)
