I have 38 on my needle :smashy: I am painstakingly removing a stitch at a time so I can put the stitches correctly on my needle. The 1st clue was so much easier as you could just knit and not have to pay so much attention to your knitting.

Yeah, those sneaky extra stitches can be a real pain. There are a few ways you can get them by accident.

#1 - At the beginning of a new row, make sure your yarn is down at the front. Don't pull it back, or you will make an extra stitch there.

#2 - You may grab the strand of yarn between stitches by accident, and knit it.

#3 - You might think that you dropped a stitch, so you pick up the strand of yarn between the needles and knit it.

#4 - use your imagination.....there are LOTS of ways to add stitches in knitting!

being so new to knit I have done this (#3) several times now. Not used to what it all should look like so every once in awhile I don't trust myself and think I dropped a stitch so I pick it back up then realize I messed up. Experience should help in avoiding these mistakes I hope.
I feel lucky, after watching so many videos about how to hold the yarn I ran across one that pointed out your #1 and have caught myself having to move the yarn around the hook at the start of a row! I appreciate all the reminders and tips I can find right now, since I am only absorbing a few at a time, the more the better eh! lol

Experience will DEFINITELY help!
I remember when I was first learning to knit. Occasionally, I would very carefully knit a stitch, watching the stitch go over from the left needle to the right needle. Then, I would hold my needles apart a little, and really LOOK at how it all went together. I wanted to KNOW at a glance what it should look like when I knew there were no mistakes made. This really helped me to see the difference if I actually DID drop a stitch!

That monopoly board is my mousepad. I love it! I found it in the clearance aisle at ToysRUs about 10 years ago. The clerk at the register saw it and said, "Where did you find this?" She then ran over to the aisle, but couldn't find another. She wanted to buy mine, and I said, "No way! I have a house full of game freaks! They would kill me if I passed this one up!"

That IS cool! :cooldude:
Don't you love good bargain finds like that that are just perfectly suited?
Today I found one last winter coat in my son's size for only $26. He has broken the zippers he had on his two coats since Monday, and it would cost me the same to get them repaired (and they may not even fit him next year anyway). Besides, no time for zipper repairs when doing so much knitting!

#5 - When knitting and purling in the same row, you YO instead of bringing the yarn between the needles.

My first square for Clue#2! I like the cast off with a needle two sizes larger - keeps the stitches flat and supple at the top of the rib.

Precisely! LOTS of people do that one.

I just finished my squares for clue 2! Here is a picture of 2 of my squares. Absolutely loved learning a new stitch! Can't wait to see what's in store for clue 3!

Pretty! I like that turtle green.

I just finished making a quick video, showing how to do the stitching for Clue #2.
I hope it helps some of you!

Please remember that I have an awful toothache, so it's not the best video in the world.

It is uploading to YouTube right now....VERY SLOWLY..... :?

Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uSAPVkL8MU
But, it might take a while for it to be viewable.

By the way, in the video, I only work 7 stitches of the pattern, and I end the k1below with a purl stitch. When you make your square, you should follow the complete pattern, and end that row with a knit stitch.
