No error. It's just difficult for some of our forum members to interpret the instructions.

When I printed out Clue #2, I had to copy and paste the text into a new document, enlarge the font, and arrange the steps into rows that were easier for me to read. This way, I could check off each step as I completed it.

Just take your time, and follow the directions as they are listed. It will work just fine.

My question is what gives????? This many people having the same problem seems a bit hinky to me.

When I've looked at some of the photos in the spoiler thread, I've noticed that some people do their chains very tightly. I'm thinking that this might be drawing in the size of the motif. Is this something you might be experiencing in your motif?

Didn't get at Clue 2 yesterday as we were away for the day ... but made up for lost time today and now have all 6 ready to be blocked ... my husband made me an octagonal block, also on plywood, so with my fine knitting needles on the eight edges placed over the corner nails the design is so much more open! It looks lovely, so am very hopeful that they will all look great when blocked!

I had no problem with clue 1, I keep getting lost on round 6, start that round, rip it out, do it again and again and I know it's not that hard, I've crochet for years, I just keep getting lost. I think I need to blow up the instructions to extra large for reading.

That's what I had to do! My vision is not what it used to be, so I always enlarge the font of every pattern I follow now.

It has also helped me to look at the chart occasionally, to see how the stitches are laid out. That confirms my thoughts, and makes it all come together.

Yippee, just wanted to post something happy! My size was off for my first motif, so after work yesterday and once kiddos tucked in bed I tried again. But this time I made sure I relaxed and tried to loosen my stitch, the finished product turned out much closer to correct size!! I think I'm good to go now! :D thanks to all of you offering support.

My question is ... my motifs came out at 9" as well, but I am ok with that. Is it going to greatly affect the overall size of the afghan? I am just having fun making the motifs. They are so different from what I am used to doing.

Row 5 as laid out in the text was difficult to grasp, so I relied on the chart, but still had to run the same row two or three times before I came to terms with myself on how to space the stitches along the "chains" between the petals.
Also had to use a bigger crochet to make those "chains" and then I got back to the original crochet. Otherwise the "chains" worked out to be too short and they pulled the petals too close together (Sorry for my English!).

Overall, it was an interesting clue!

And I am very happy that my clue 1 worked out exactly as the official one. Ho-ho!

Yet my clue 2 motifs are coming out at only 9 1/2 inches. I'm not sure if I should just add a couple more rows or ask my husband to pick up some larger hooks and keep trying until I get it right or what. :rainy:

I think the key to matching the template with Clue 2 is to let the yarn flow very loose. That's what I had to do.

I tried that yesterday and ended up at about 10 1/2 inches. I figure I should be able to block it to 11 inches without any problem. Thank goodness. I feel so much better about the clue. Just a few more dc and my second one is finished. :D
