Crochet Helper here

Hi i've been knitting for 5 years. Pretty much have it down packed, but I would love to learn how to crochet. I bought a cd to go along with it, but I just cant seem to grasp it. I always mess up because my tension is really uneven. Help!

Best way I can tell you to fix that is how my Great Aunt taught me....LOTS of practice...and concentrate on trying to do it evenly. It takes practice. What she had me do first is doilies...working with crochet thread until I got the tension right. The I worked with yarn. Just keep practicing & I am sure you will do fine!!

Plus, used books with patterns to learn. Don't know how well a CD does. I guess I am old-fashioned that way

Hi there! I bought six balls of Bernat Baby Pom Pom yarn, intending to crochet a baby blanket. However, the space between the pom poms is so small that the typical two stitches just doesn't work. I was hoping you could give me some advice as to how to crochet with this stuff.

That is one you have me stumped on. I have not yet tried working with the pom pom yarn...although have seriously thought about it lately. The only suggestion I can make in this case is to use your search engine (Google or whichever) & you will probably be able to find instructions &/or tutorials on working with it.

Crochet Helper, I'm looking at the Mermaid Tears Purse pattern and cannot find instructions or explanation for "down post of first dc of previous rnd" or for "up post of next dc of previous rnd". I can guess that the stitch extends into the previous row/round, and that it's a post stitch (though not entirely clear whether its a front or back post). I've never worked with an up or down post by that name and would appreciate step-by-step instructions, if anyone has them. I realize the forum will be working this pattern in the coming week; unfortunately, I'll be unavailable to join in. Thanks in advance if anyone can help here.

I was just looking over the instructions for that purse. I was wondering about the up & down post too. I told my daughter I would just to start trying to make it & see. Looks confusing even to me. I have done post stitches before...but it loos like you are working 3 rows at a time on this one. So, as I try it...if I can give you any pointers I will. In the meantime...I will look in my vast library of books & see if I can find out the info for both of us!!

There is a tutorial video on this page to do the "Crocodile" stitch...which is the name of the stitch used on this purse. Hope it helps you. It makes more sense to me now
