I am almost finished with clue #1, only have 1.5 squares left. Then I plan to start clue #2. If I am lucky I should be starting this clue on Wed. when they bring out Clue #3 :) So I am hoping I don't have to much trouble since most of you will be moving on and not here to give advice. I have read everyone else's problems so I hope I can learn from them and I'll just fly thru Clue #3 (i know I'm dreaming) I can't wait to get finished with clue 1 so I can add my signiture and start on clue 2!

Finished last square of Clue 4 last night while watching the Academy Awards.

I did not count the number of rows I knit on the first square, just finished when the square was the same size (stretched) as the squares from Clue 1.
I count 34 "V's" on the RS. Not sure with the knit one below if I am couting correctly but think that means I knit 68 rows not counting cast on & bind off.

Re: Knit-Along Clue 2 - fixing mistakes

Postby txcatgirl » Mon Feb 27, 2012 1:55 pm

This is the first time I've ever done Shaker Rib; while I love the texture, I occasionally make mistakes (starting to knit a row when I should be doing knit into the stitch below, knit 1) and have a hard time fixing them. It's normally pretty easy to tell a purl stitch from a knit stitch in more other ribs, but the extra strands in this stitch pattern throw me, and I have had to cast on and start over three times already, just because I don't know how to fix one stitch and make it look right. I apologize if this already has been answered on this forum; just point me to it, please -- or am I the only one too dense to figure it out?

I'm trying to do both. So far, so good. Doing the KAL in the nice Waverly, and the CAL in some crummy yarn my sister-in-law bought at a yard sale (Note: she does not knit, just buys yarn). If I can finish it, guess what sister-in-law is getting for Christmas!

The best way I found is to rip back to a completed 'knit' row. The stitches are easy to pick back up from there. The good news is that the more you do this stitch, the sooner the mistakes will become obvious. I never managed to make a square that I didn't have to back up at least once, but the errors showed up sooner. One of my favorite knitters, Maggie Righetti, recommends stopping to 'pet' your work frequently. it's really good advice!

Have to agree ... It was much easier to rip back to a knit row, then pick up the stiches form there and start. Tried a few times to fix on the kint below row and just made thing worse lol

You'll never be alone, when working on earlier clues. Our forums will be available for prior clues, so you'll be able to post questions there, and we will help out.

Thanks for asking! I went to the endodontist this morning, and he was able to do a root canal, without damaging my crown! :D My pain is erased, and I took a long, wonderful nap this afternoon.(5 hours) It was so nice to go to sleep without an ice pack on my jaw. :)

Of course, I still have some tenderness to get through, from the work he did this morning. But, it's nothing in comparison to the pain I endured for the last 6 days. I feel so sorry for people who do not have access to a dentist. So heartbreaking to imagine going through all that with no relief in sight. :(

Now, I just need to remember to stay on schedule with my antibiotics, so a new infection does not crop up. And I'll be brushing and flossing even MORE than I used to. I sure don't want to go through THAT again. :?
