Crochet-Along Clue 2: Spoilers and Photos

When I was a kid my great-aunt taught me how to crochet and I took immediately to it. She tried to teach me to knit and even after all this time I still can't do it. Something about the tension, always too tight or too loose, and it's so hard to keep all those loops on the needle. If only there was a way to do that with a crochet hook.

I do know how to do the tunisian simple stitch but I don't see how that could be used for the KAL pattern clue 1 with all those increases. Do you?

Bummer! I'll be staying right here on the CAL then. So far so good with this. While waiting tonight for the CAL clue 3, I did give it a try to use crochet hooks instead of knitting needles for the KAL clue 1 but still it's really, really bad. My hats off to them on the other side.

I would love to try the KAL and every time I think about it, I remember how slow and frustrating I find knitting. I will just begin another crochet project to keep me busy. Thanks for reinforcing my decision!!

I really love the way knitted things look and my mother knits. I don't have a problem with the tension knitting but, like you mention, those dropped stitches are the pits!!! I will definitely stick with crochet until I try all the patterns I have stored in my files and on my computer--I would have to live to be about 500 to do that!

I feel foolish, I thought you had just wondered if there was a technique to combine the two crafts, not a way to work the KAL using cro knit.

My fear of dropped knitting stitches is the reason I took a class on fixing mistakes. I wanted to know what to do with any problem I might encounter. That class helped me so much! It gave me the confidence to try ANYTHING with knitting.

A knitting class would be great!!! Unfortunately, we live in a very small rural town and the closest place for a class would be more than 60 miles from us. With the price of gasoline now, we make multi-purpose trips instead of recreational ones. When I come to a slow place with crochet, I could check out internet videos on knitting--know there have to be some. Thanks for the class idea which triggered the video thought!!!! I love this forum for all the ideas.

Funny thing is, I drove over 100 miles to take that class!
Every year, I go to the Southeastern Animal Fiber Fair (SAFF) in the beautiful North Carolina mountains. They offer lots of classes for knitting, crochet, spinning, weaving, etc. I took the "Oops Workshop" class there, and it was only $15.

My friend, you are not foolish at all! It's hard to understand what everyone means in a forum like this. Conversation has so many idiosyncrasies, that sometimes meanings are hard to interpret with these typed messages. I have misunderstood people MANY times in a forum. But, it all works out in the end.
