pattern 2372, off shoulder sweater (knit)

Postby Tami » Fri Feb 24, 2012 1:16 am

Has anyone come across this problem? I have been working the raglan edge as k2, k2tog. on the front piece, I am about to shape the neck. I have 65 stitches with the right side facing, When it comes to shaping the neck on this sweater, the pattern reads as follows:
k2, k2tog, k5 (neck edge). Leave rem sts on a spare needle. purl one row. dec one st at neck edge on next and following alt rows twice more. AT THE SAME TIME, cont dec at raglan edge as before on next and following alt rows until there are 2 sts. Purl one row. k2tog, bind off.
No matter how I work this, i end up with 3 stitches instead of two at the end. i am also purling the alt rows that i am not decreasing. Am I completely misreading this step? I am at a dead stop right now till i figure this out, as i need to repeat this step on the left side as well.

Please help....

I have double checked this pattern and it does work, you must be missing one of the decreases. I have added some additional comments in the shade neck section of the pattern, hope this helps.

FRONT
Work from ** to ** as given for Back. Rep last 2 rows until there are 61 (63-65-65-67) sts, ending with RS facing for next row.
Shape neck: Next row: K2. K2tog. K5 (neck edge). Leave rem sts on a spare needle. -------- you will have 8 sts on your needles once this row has been worked -----------------
Purl 1 row. ---------- still 8 sts – you are now back to the raglan edge of your work ----------------------
Dec 1 st at neck edge on next and following alt rows twice more, ----------- this read next then every following alt twice for a total decrease of 3 sts. -------- AT SAME TIME, cont dec at raglan edge as before on next and following alt rows --------- this section reads the same on next then following alt for a decrease of 3 sts.----- once all of the decreases are complete it will be a total of 6 sts decreases from the 8 leaving you with 2 sts. ------------ until there are 2 sts. ---
Purl 1 row.
Next row: K2tog. Fasten off.

help on pattern 2372

Postby Tami » Thu Mar 15, 2012 1:06 pm

Has anyone come across this problem? This is an off shoulder sweater.
Should I be purling the alt rows that i am not decreasing? Am I completely misreading this step? I am at a dead stop right now till i figure this out, as i need to repeat this step on the left side as well.

Please help....Thanks in advance.

If someone could please put the instructions in a row by row format, that would help greatly. I am a fairly new knitter...
