Crochet-Along Clue 3

Postby Jen » Wed Feb 29, 2012 10:59 am

This week we’ve got another large motif, worked in the round. We’re getting a little tougher again with this clue, but stay patient and bring your questions to the forums - we know you’ll be fine. Don’t forget to check out the videos below for help.

Pattern
DOWNLOAD CAL CLUE 3
NOTE - There is a correction to Clue 3 - if you downloaded it before 11:40am on Wednesday 2/29, please download it again.
Download the blocking template - please print as "actual size" on your printer. NOT as "fit to page"

You’ll need 1 to 2 balls of Contrast C, and 1 ball of your Main Color.

Skills You’ll Learn
  • Each skill in the list links to a video in our Video Library where you can learn the skill or remind yourself what to do.
  • Working in the back loop - Working into the back loop is often used to give items a decorative raised edge. You’ll work row 2 into the back loops of the stitches you create in row 1.
  • Working into the back of a foundation chain - this is a technique that is often used to create ovals or other rounded shapes. In our case, in row 4 we’ll be working along the back of chains we created and worked into in row 3.
  • Treble 2 together (tr2tog) - this is a very tall decrease that works into 2 stitches, but only ends up creating one stitch. You’ll try this out on row 5.

Other Skills You’ll Use

Tips:
  • Rounds 3-5 might require your undivided attention. Turn off the TV and wait until the kids are in bed to lower the risk of making mistakes!
  • If you get stuck, don’t forget to use the crochet chart as a reference!
  • Make sure you measure your motifs when they are complete. Your octagons should measure 11” across and your squares should be 4.5”.
If you have any questions, this thread is the place to ask and answer!

Please do not post any photos to this thread. They belong in the "Crochet-Along Clue 3: Spoilers and Photos" thread!

When you're done the week's clue, why not pat yourself on the back and add a badge to your signature?

Just open the User Control Panel's "Signature" page. In the field where you type your signature, add the code below and you'll be able to show off your progress! It's a good idea to replace last week's badge with this one so your signature isn't cluttered :)

Question right off the bat before we start: with back loops, should those of us who are left-handed work in the front loop instead? Please remember that while the right side faces a right handed crocheter's body, the right side for a lefty faces AWAY. Thanks for answering before I start.

Gosh, that's a good question....which I have no idea how to answer.
Any other left-handers here, who know the answer?

You might want to check the Left Handed discussion that was started earlier, so you can find other left-handed forum members. viewtopic.php?f=151&t=1307

Just read the clue, I am a little nervous about this one. I am pretty new to crocheting, I would have never tried any of these patterns on my own with out all the help on this forum!!
