Knit-Along Clue 3 (3/20/2012: Corrected!)

I guess I was due for a tough clue. The fabric is not turning out as wonderfully soft as the other clues. I am not as in love with this one.

I'm feeling kind of the same way about this clue. But we'll wait and see how the second square turns out, when I'm not quite as asleep as I was when I finished last night, before I make up my mind. Gotta at least give it another shot to see how it turns out. I like the pattern, just not quite sure about the way the square is coming out.

I was so excited to start the 3rd clue yesterday and do like knitting on the bias. However, the first 1/2 of my square is wavy, mostly in the beginning area all the way to the edges and I am not sure if blocking will solve it. I started the 2nd color and am not pleased with the combination so I am planning to rip that out and make a substitution.
Now I am wondering if the first half needs a different size needle. I guess I will have to do some experimentation
which does not please me because it takes time when I want to be producing squares. Any hints about the first half of the square and needle size. Thanks.

Oops, sorry to be redundant..............I just read some of the previous posts and realize that my issue is a common one. I am going to start a new square using a #7 needle and see how that goes.

I stopped with 45 stitches (since it fit my 9-1/2" square half) on clue 3. Then I started with row 3 on the next side. I figured out that row 1 brought it down to 51 stitches (for original pattern), row 3 - 49, row 5 - 47, row 1 - 45 and so row 3 brought it down to 43 stitches. My first side seems a bit bigger than the second side. I wonder if should go down a needle size for the first side and then go back to the needle size I have been using. Do you think that will work?

I think you just need to add in the two rows of knit stitch with the new color, which would probably make it work.

I've always used aluminum, and the long needles are really making my hands and wrists work! I might switch to the circular, just to take the weight off. Good luck!

That's the reason I prefer using circulars most of the time. To make it less painful for my wrists. I can knit a big blanket one row at a time, and all the weight of the blanket will rest in my lap while I knit with circulars.

Oh no! 8 squares again? I'm happy to work a new colour though!

Can anyone tell me quickly if they understand the following : when we change to colour C, the first thing to do is to knit two rows before continuing with pattern directions.

I also don't understand this.....

It's a snowy, stormy day here in the great white north (Canada ), perfect for working away on this clue. Love the 2 patterns. Eight squares doesn't seem so bad this time because of the new stitches. Can't wait to see how it looks when we put it together.

After finishing up the first half of your square, you change colors and start the new stitch pattern.
You will repeat the 6 rows of the SECOND pattern with color C. You only change colors ONCE with this square.

Yes, after changing to color C, you need to knit two rows with color C. Then, you start the new stitch design for that half of the square, continuing in color C.

Sorry. When you say "the 6 rows of the 2nd pat" Do you mean row 1 to 6 of the 2nd pat?
