Dcrozier, you can do Clue #3!!! It sounds and looks a bit daunting but it is so worth diving in and doing it! I have two of the six done for my first afghan....then 6 more for the second afghan. I am working on a prayer shawl at the same time as the afghans.

Thanks for the encouragement--I started it last night and had to frog row 4 this morning. It was quiet at 4 a.m. and I got it figured out and finished my first one which is actually the correct size! I usually use written directions but found the chart to be much easier for this. It is rainy here today so I should be able to get the others finished--they really are beautiful. My second project this week is the ripple baby blanket from the Bernat Linus project.

my "other" project while working CAL

Postby JazzHooked » Thu Mar 01, 2012 11:05 am

here's a pic of the bane of my existence:

guitar WIP2sm.jpg

The blanket, not the child. my 5 yr old wouldn't let me take the picture without her in it.

a granny-square baby blanket (ok, a BIG baby blanket) as requested by a friend....i almost wish i hadn't found this pattern cuz it is driving me totally insane. 456 small grannies in 24 rows. <sigh> i WILL finish it, cuz i'm just that stubborn, but i will NEVER make one like it again!!!!

Same here, the chart has been invaluable to me too! Sometimes I get frustrated with the printed directions that don't include a picture of the finished item as I need to see and "hear" (read) the directions. Glad you were able to get your first motif done, and I AGREE, they are beautiful!

I'm gonna attempt something almost that big (I think). My son's best friend LOVES Batman and I have a pattern on a grid so I am going to attempt it with small grannies.... I have probably lost my mind, but he will love it.

yeah, it's not exactly a laugh-a-minute... i think what drives me the most batty is that it's just so bloody repetitive. oh. and weaving in the loose ends on the squares that are half-and-half colors. the original pattern I had left 14 loose ends per 3" x 3" square....i changed it a bit and got it down to 11. but UGH 11 loose ends on EACH little square.

I found i was most productive on it if i just sat and worked on lots and lots of little squares in one color....not counting at all. I end up with a bunch, then figure out how far I can get, and start filling in the rest by rows. I also make myself get as far as X row before i stop and work on something else. otherwise I KNOW i'll never finish the darn thing!
