And the same would go :idonno: for 5th row where the pattern says to knit to last 7 sts. should it not read to last 6 sts.? :idonno:

i also have 6...

Written out starting with 51 sts. for the first of the 3rd rows: K1. K2tog. K4. K1below. K5. K1below. K5. K1below. K5. K1below. K5. K1below. K5. K1below. K5. (K1 below. K4. K2tog. K1, the last 8 sts.)

The first row is different in that the repeat is k5 then K1below. Rows 3 and 5 are K1below then K5. Make sense?

I know the first time I did the third row(fifth as well) I thought I was off a stitch and than realized that I had without thinking done the k1 in stitch below after doing the last knit 5

I'm feeling kind of the same way about this clue. But we'll wait and see how the second square turns out, when I'm not quite as asleep as I was when I finished last night, before I make up my mind. Gotta at least give it another shot to see how it turns out. I like the pattern, just not quite sure about the way the square is coming out.

Nice to know I am not the only one on this clue! Although I like the knit-one-below in stockinette, not feeling the love in this pattern stitch.

Clue 3 - KAL - Gauge Problems

Postby suseb » Thu Mar 01, 2012 7:10 pm

Is anyone besides me having a problem matching gauge with these two patterns? I'm using 2 sizes smaller needles for the first half to keep it from expanding to a 10 inch square and then my regular needle choice for the second half to keep it from appearing in need of severe stretching. If it's only me, I'll chalk it up to this old yarn my daughter acquired from a yard sale - 2 different brands of worsted weight.

I think I am having the same issue. I have 43 stitches and the length of it is the same as my others for Clue 1. I don't know whether I should continue knitting or just switch over to my other color. I am hemming and hawing over it. I don't want to rip it all out! ugh.

I had my first square half done last night and discovered it was way too big! :( I didn't want to rip it out either, but I did. Went down a needle size so am hoping that will help. Am checking it to my template as I go so hopefully that will keep me on track. :knit:

I figured out that row 1 brought it down to 51 stitches (for original pattern), row 3 - 49, row 5 - 47, row 1 - 45 and so row 3 brought it down to 43 stitches. My first side seems a bit bigger than the second side. I wonder if should go down a needle size for the first side and then go back to the needle size I have been using. Do you think that will work?

I think you just need to add in the two rows of knit stitch with the new color, which would probably make it work.

Oh, I did the 2 knit rows. I just didn't include it in my explanation. sorry.

I guess the question that hasn't been asked (or I haven't seen it) is: Is the first half suppose to be bigger than the second half? Or do you have to do adjustments like above?

Ok, second square came out much better. Must have been knitting a bit tightly last night. Now that the second one has come out fine, I'm really starting to like this pattern. I will probably end up redoing the first square, but not until I get them all done first. Hoping others have the same result!

I'm having issues I never dreamed of having. I'm having gauge issues all over!! When I finished my first clue 3 it looks completely out of shape. It looks like I've just started knitting!!! You know, the first scarf you knit and you have more stitches then you started with and you just don't know how it happened!!! I've used three different sized needles so far for all my clues...I actually made 3 different swatches
